Fortifying the entry points into your home is a good suggestion. Won't keep them out if they're determined, but it'll slow them down enough to enact your plan if you're able to hear it. A crew that's sophisticated enough to gather long-term Intel on a person's movements is eventually gonna get in. They didn't come that far for nothing.
As far as defense, no one knows your home as intimately as you do. Hard corners and high ground are where it pays. Smart money says have a few secondary weapons strategically placed (in safe locations, away from child's reach) in case you're not near the fallback place. 6 against 1 is definitely tough, but it isn't impossible. I say make it to the fallback as soon as possible and try to inflict some measure of damage along the way, just to let em know you're in the fight. That should slow their movement a little more when they know it's being taxed. Plus, if you can burn one or two on the way up, you'll know just how committed the others are. 6 is too many bodies to really go hunt for them, in my opinion. Especially if yours is a standard, middle class America sized home. You'll only have a few moves before you're out of options. And only one set of eyes to try and track multiple people.
Find a good choke point. Preferably near a stairwell or long narrow hall, make yourself a small target and give em hell from right there. Also, have a good, quick place for mama and baby to hide and draw the intruders away from it. They'll know that they have to deal with you before they can go spelunking for your valuables.
If you do manage to lay a few of them down early on and the others stick around, you can't give up till they're all gone. They won't be able to afford living witnesses at that point. If that was even their intent in the first place. They'll either be pissed cuz you took out a friend or smart enough to know that they'll eventually be connected to the bodies, once they're identified. Either way, like war daddy said in Fury "they'll hurt you real bad, then they'll kill you real bad."
As far as weapons go, I'd say dealers choice. Whatever is high cap and you're comfortable with. Reloads take up time you may not have. 6 people can cover a lot of ground in a standard sized house in no time flat if they even half ass know what they're doing. Seconds will count. Just make a plan for your structure and your family. Train it, evolve it and stick to it.
Bonus points to arm your wife and give her a landline cordless phone. And tell her not to get involved unless confronted, so as to protect the hide spot and baby. A cell phone 911 call will only plot to a location. That'll put help in the general vicinity, but not at the door. A landline that's just open will bring the cavalry right to the house. She won't even need to speak. Just dial 911, hit the call button and let it go.
I realize bullets go through walls. There are ways to combat that to a degree, if you're so inclined, but it costs. These are just suggestions for best possible outcome for a normal person with a normal income in a normal house. Just my $.02
