Home owner shoots and kills burglar

Re: Home owner shoots and kills burglar

JHC you are right. I'm a Sgt. with OKCPD, and crime is on the rise. People that live in this city have no idea how much violent crimes have gone up. If you ask our city council we do not have a crime or gang problem here either. However, I can tell you otherwise. The worse part of it is violent crimes against officers has gone up significantly. Since I've been on this department I've learned there is a difference in being shot at, and being shot in the direction of. I'm sure you military men and women that have seen combat can say the same thing. It's just sad that more often than not most citizens do not take more steps in protecting their family and preparing for that moment that hopefully never comes.

I hear ya! One of the major reasons both my wife and I exercise our CCW rights anytime we go out, and our home is protected by force.

If they are allowed the right to do so.
Here in the woods we do what needs doin and worry about the law when they get there ( most times about 1 to 2 hours later ).
Aint bitching as we like things like that out here. Leave me alone and I will leave you alone as the police are a LONG ways away. No gangs and such to speak of. If I lived in town I would have the trouble of dealing with people that dont know how to leave others alone. Had a officer at my place once and he was lookin at one of my AR15's hangin by the door. I asked if it worried him it being there. He said not out here ,you all aint no problem but if you were in the city I would have to run all this( Aint no bangers out here.)
Think hard where you dig your foxhole as it may become your grave.

That's all well and good, but take a look at the comments at the bottom of the article. What I find interesting is the posting by the user "Earth is, Doomed." I would be very interested in finding out if what he says is true.

The sad part of these investigations is that police remove all weapons from the home. That includes any antique or display firearms that are deactivated. Once the case is fully resolved, the owners have to apply for a writ of seizure to get them back. Usually the police hope you won't do that and the brass gets first dibs of the property. I've seen cases where a whole house worth of guns are removed and nearly every cop on the force gets one. So the rule of thumb is to keep your weapons in a well secured area that even the police would have trouble finding. Fake walls are usually good where you have to actually remove dry wall to get to them. Elsewise if something does happen, the police will confiscate all of them. Then you have to hire an attorney to get them back. Police say its in the best interest of take guns from the home of any incident they are called for any reason they deem necessary.</div></div>

For what it's worth this hasn't been my experience but I wouldn't doubt that this happens, look at the post Katrina gun grab for an example.
