The sad part of these investigations is that police remove all weapons from the home. That includes any antique or display firearms that are deactivated. Once the case is fully resolved, the owners have to apply for a writ of seizure to get them back. Usually the police hope you won't do that and the brass gets first dibs of the property. I've seen cases where a whole house worth of guns are removed and nearly every cop on the force gets one. So the rule of thumb is to keep your weapons in a well secured area that even the police would have trouble finding. Fake walls are usually good where you have to actually remove dry wall to get to them. Elsewise if something does happen, the police will confiscate all of them. Then you have to hire an attorney to get them back. Police say its in the best interest of take guns from the home of any incident they are called for any reason they deem necessary.</div></div>
For what it's worth this hasn't been my experience but I wouldn't doubt that this happens, look at the post Katrina gun grab for an example.
