Don’t know that it is much of a “stand,” but I got tired of just setting steel plates up with sticks or what not and having them flip around all over the place. Had a free evening and made this up with what I could find. The silhouette target is an 18x30 I cut out myself, and the round is a 10” Walmart special.

Here is mine. It slips together in steel where the 2x4's meet, so it is very portable.
In the background you see the small steel hung with conveyor belt, on rebar that slips together at the joints, very portable.
Not home made exactly. I bought the hinge kits online.

Built these for fun back in August of 2016 For my local range. The round is 304 SS and the square plate with flipper plate is AR500.
I can’t even begin to think about the number of rounds these targets have endured. They are located at the 400m target backer.

here was my DIY effort from a couple years back using 3/4" black pipe and fittings from the local hardware store. A piece of mtn bike innertube serves as a rubber band to keep the legs from flapping when storing or transporting. I had some scrap sheet metal that I used to make the chain/S-hook brackets from. Fairly lightweight and adaptable on uneven terrain.

*UPDATE*

The target stand is holding up very well. Was plinking around all day with a Savage MK2-FV and one of my ARs.I decided to confirm zero before heading to thunder valley this coming weekend. 300m Zero was good so decided to nail the small 10 inch plate. Good shot. Without thinking went to the silhouette target and placed one round on the thoracic triangle. Immediately after not seeing the target move, I remembered the sillohuette was only 1/4” steel.

Looking at the bright side of things, the rounds spawling after impact aren’t hurting the wood as bad as I imagined(y)

Whoops! Been there done that with punching a hole.
Stand looks great though- gives me ideas for how I want to set one up.

It don't ring worth a damn most times with small rounds you see the impact rather than hear it. I throw paint on it before I use it. Any ideas for making this damn thing ring out like every other steel target?

Mine does not ring very loud. I hear it occasionally mainly see it move. Or see impacts on the paint. My target that is pictured is AR 500, 16”x16”. The thickness is about 7/16. I think perhaps if it was thinner it would ring more. I’m shooting at it from 100 to 700 yds. This is my first steel target So I’m a noob.

Report back if that seems to help. My other idea is to get a large thin piece of steel the same size and mount it behind the heavy plate. My thinking is if I can get the spacing just right the plate could smack it just once on the initial impact and get her singing.

My old stand was all wood and it didn't transmit much sound. I changed to an all metal stand and now I can hear it ring at 1400 yards. I am using a 3/8" thick AR500 plate. I think the wood absorbs some of the vibration and soaks up the sound.
