Range Report Hornady 120 Amax info?

First post with the new forum! I can't get the search function to work the way I used to do it. Previously, I'd use Google, which worked great, but that no longer is working.

Anyway, if this has been stated before, I apologize. Getting to my point....It seems as though Midway is only getting the 120 gr. Amax bullets for the 6.5 CM in stock, so I've been buying them when I can. I do have some of the 140's, but I need ammo, so I'm trying to get whatever I can....right now it's only been 120's.

Does anyone here have some real-world range report info on this factory ammo? i.e. - performance compared to the 140's? Seems that the heavier pills work better at extended ranges, so I'm wondering if anyone has some real-world info on their performances at different distances. I would like to participate in some of our local matches, which extend to only 500m and I figures the 120's would be useful in that regard.

I'll be shooting these out of a 25" Bartlein, 1:8.5 if that helps.

Only out to 500m? Use the 120gr Amax with full confidence! Don't need a 140gr pill for that range. 123gr much preferred to the 120gr, but in these trying times, we must make do with what we can get and 120gr will be more than fine from a 25"er.

Thanks for the reply. That's what I suspected. I've seen a lot on the 140's, but not much about the 120's. I have Litz's Accuracy and Precision for Long Range Shooting book, and it does not have BC info for the Hornady 120 gr. His larger book might though, I'm not sure.

Negative SGT, the new book does not list the 120gr Amax (nor the 123gr Amax); however 500m and in, the BC impact on ballistics will be small enough that any error between what Hornady gives you and the actual BC is not material to the firing solution. Make sure you have a good read on MV however, as that will have bigger impact.
