Looking at Hornadys info on the 140gr Amax bullets, on the bottom of the label it indicates 1-7.5 twist rate required. Anyone know what going on. I looked at their website and didn't see anything about that requirement.

Have you tried any other 140gr bullets? I shot 2 boxes of the Amax 140, after reloading the cases w the factory load but using Bergers VLD 140gr. While the While accuracy of the factory loads was good the Bergers made a noticable improvement. I did a load ladder increasing in .3gr, the 1st 7 went into a sub quater size hole. Another shooter was doing the same load work on a 338LM. While he had a spread, he mentioned I retry at a longer yardage. The wind in creased so anything else would have been questionable. I wonder why Hornady would spend the time & effort of printing that on a label.

I know no one.... i.e. NOT ONE PERSON who shoots a 1:7.5 6.5mm barrel. Never even heard of one.
I'm not Rob, but I have shot 139 Lapuas, 140 Bergers, 140 Berger Hybrid, 140 Amax's and Hornady 140 BTHP's. They all shoot relatively the same in my rifle. 1/4 to 1/3 moa out to 750 yards. If yours shoots one a lot better that the other, it's either a distance to the lands issue (common with secant ogive bullets) or a throat length/leade angle issue (dependant on reamer design).

i shoot 140 amaxs exclusively in my creed with an 1/8 twist. its an absolute hammer. i don't know why hornady or any other manufacturer does the shit they do sometimes. why put the load on the box as 41.5 when everyone i've ever torn down was 42.6-7....i know they load to pressures etc....just sayin
i don't really give a shit i guess so long as i'm getting the results i am.

There's a lot of reasoning behind this simple answer, but here it is:

They are printing it for margin of safety. The 140 Amax is always going to be stable at rifle speeds from any caliber with a 7.5tw in any atmospheric conditions.
My experience with the bullet says that it's the same for an 8tw + 140 Amax combo. I've shot and seen a lot shot from 8.5tw and they work until the DA's drop below ~ -1400, which is for most of January around me. An 8.75tw will stabilize the 140Amax in DA's over 1000-1200' from a 260 Rem but after that they get unreliable. The 140BTHP Hornady though is 0.04" shorter overall and works from it.
If you have an 8 or 8.5tw rifle barrel you'll be just fine with them anywhere in CONUS.
