Greetings,
I took my Savage 12 FV (26'' barrel) out today and shot my usual Hornady 22-250 55 grn vmax factory ammo and discovered my dope was a little off. The dope I did have for this rifle was taken in the warmer months but today it was about 38 degrees here in Indiana and I havent got great data for this gun in colder weather. At 300 yards I did not notice any difference in my dope but out at 400, 500, and 600 there was a significant change....
In warmer months I have been seeing a projected velocity of 3910 according to the Vortex LRBC program. The following is a breakdown of what I am getting in warm vs colder months:
Warm Weather (80 degrees):
Velocity: 3910 (According to Vortex LRBC)
400 Yards- 4 MOA
500 Yards- 6.5 MOA
600 Yards- 9.5 MOA
Cold Weather(38 degrees):
Velocity: 3740 (According to JBM Ballistics)
400- 5 MOA
500- 7.5 MOA
600- 10.75 MOA
I have not been able to run this ammo across a chrono to see what my actual velocities are but I wanted to see what you guys thought? Would the cooler weather really be changing my velocity by up to 170 FPS due to a 40 degree temp change? I will add that the barrel is currently sitting at approximately 460 rounds.
Thanks,
Blake
