Was waiting for this bullet to finally become available, seemed like a home run for tac division prs... ordered 200 to do some testing and development. The disappointment when I saw on the BC on box (it was previously impossible to find from hornady or anywhere online).
G1 .416
G7 .208

It's not even close to being on par with the 75 eld match.... early call is these will be a lead balloon

Anyone have experience with these yet? What's the point of this bullet if the ballistics aren't that much better than the 73g eld match, and when compared to the new 62g VT it can't keep up with barely having an edge in ballistics but with additional speed, won't catch the 62 in drop or deflection anywhere meaningful?

Just disappointed I guess, I was hoping for a relationship like the 108 eld and 110 atip

I’m guessing these are designed to work with mag fed 223 ARs. Pretty hard to get much above .400 bc that will work with 223 ARs. These will probably be a lot more consistent than the 73 eld and the 62 eldvt. If they could make a 75gr with the same bc as the 75 eld and still work without single feeding in an 223 AR that would be amazing.

Not for people loading them in ARs.
I'll continue to run the 75 bthp for less than 3rd of the price or the 73 eld for less than half price. Both will provide very similar performance from an AR platform. They needed to update the 75gr eld for a more consistent tac division bullet. I've shot thousands of 75 elds from multiple barrels and their biggest downside is the random flyers.

Good those choices are there for you. They just offered another. Only so much you can do with the weight and caliber for BC. I load the 75 BTHP in my ARs.

I also shoot the 75 ELDs on my bolt gun and never saw any flyers.

That's what I'm saying though. There are plenty of AR bullets in that weight range that have similar BCs. So adding another and charging more than double for a consistency that probably won't be very noticeable from an AR platform is definitely a miss.

There are far fewer that compete with the 75gr eld in BC and ability to run at higher velocities for the weight.

Lucky you but me and the majority of people I know that have shot them on multiple occasions have seen these random flyers. Not saying that they can't be used without success because I did well with them in multiple matches but there's definitely room for improvement in their consistency.

That’s the problem though as you can only get so much juice(BC) from the squeeze(mag length) so maybe they were trying to give a lighter ATip as the other is 90 and too heavy for most people using the AR or even bolt guys in a .223. Is what it is though. Just another option.

Well I will consider my self lucky as I never usually am the lucky one. Fingers crossed for not joining the flyer club in the future.

We did the 62gr ELD-VT for the 22 ARC and there's a pile of angry people because it's not magazine capable in 5.56 AR-15's. Do a 76gr A-tip that fits the AR-15 and people are angry it's not a higher BC.

:)

I get it. I designed this one and did what I could to get BC up there but you're stuck with ogive length and we've tried long BT's in AR's and it usually doesn't pan out so it is what it is. This one came down from the top that we needed it to be AR-15 compatible.

I don't think that's the sort of explanation the ARC crowd is trying to hear.

I'm the same as you, 75 BTHPs in gas guns and for practice in bolt guns, 75 ELDMs in the bolt gun when I find em cheap or for local matches if I wanna shoot tac. Same powder charge and BTO, both shoot bugholes in multiple barrels. No flyers for me either.

It's cool that Hornady have made a higher BC 76gr bullet that fits in AR mags but I'm far too cheap to run A-tips in my gas guns, haha.

Looks like the same disappointment as the 166 atip - which is inferior to the 162eldm.
The 75 eldm has always been my favourite Hornady 224 bullet.

Edit: wasn’t aware this one is meant for AR15 … make sense to offer a premium bullet for gassers.

Kind of going off-topic a little here... but any chance of you guys putting out a .30 cal that's somewhere between the 176 and the 230 in weight? Like say, 200-ish? Asking for a friend... 😁

I get the 62gr ELD-VT... It can be exploited by many different cartridges to be driven fast and take advantage of the very high BC for weight. It's a great concept overall but especially for shorter barreled varmint guns. That bullet will work well with lot's of different platforms.

The 76gr A-tip is the opposite. You have an expensive and consistent bullet that is extremely limited in versatility; designed for the AR platform with very little to no advantage in BC. Let's be honest the vast majority of "match" ARs aren't going to be accurate enough to see the advantages the A-tips bring to the table.

From a business stand point I can maybe get it because I'm willing to bet far more bullets are shot from AR15s than 22 cal bolt guns. I just don't think the majority of people who handload for their ARs are going to think the "juice is worth the squeeze" for these. Guess you guys will find out.

I'm hoping Berger comes up with a .224 75-77gr hybrid that competes with the 75gr eld in BC because the 85.5gr is the most accurate, consistent, and jump insensitive bullet for my 223s, 22br, and 22 creed.

I don't necessarily disagree... But I also thought the .350 Legend was DOA and here we are still pumping it out.

It's a bit of a conundrum. We've got the 90gr A-tip which fits in the 22 ARC really well. Then for what it is, honestly having 75gr, 80gr, and 88gr ELD-Ms, it might be difficult to fit in another A-tip that has a significant performance gap between them... It's certainly something we will consider and I'll push it up the chain as far as I can.... for whatever that's worth :D
