I think you'll find more love for the Horus reticle than the scopes themselves. The reticle can be ordered in other scope manufacturers scopes if you're not aware of that....of course they are a higher cost.
Based on your Noob post I think there are better options.
What's it going on and what's your budget?

Love the Horus concept but the reticle is busy to say the least...depends on which reticle you get. The gap reticle works similar and is not as "busy". If you must have the reticle, save your funds and get it in a higher quality scope.
If you are just looking for an entry level scope I would suggest a Leupold or something similar.

The "busyness" of the Horus reticle is a familiarity issue. People who have used one for long get used to the reticle, and it's not a problem.
I would not recommend the Horus scopes. They have a reputation for unreliability, and HorusVision has a reputation for being a pain in the ass to deal with. In my experience, both reputations are well-deserved.
I owned a Horus scope, briefly, before I returned it, and replaced it with a U.S.O. with a Horus reticle.
I sold the U.S.O./Horus after noticing that I can shoot targets out to 600 yards using only holdovers from a 100-yard zero with a conventional mildot scope having 5 mils of marks below the main crosshairs, and that's about as far as I care to shoot that way.
So, in short, my recommendation is that if you really want the reticle, get it in a U.S.O., Premier Reticles, or Nightforce scope. Avoid Horus scopes - and HorusVision.

hey jason, I used to have family down in your neck of the woods.
But anyway, whats going on with me right now is I have always been interested in long range shooting and now Im in a position that I can start to take action with it. But funds are limited until the first of the year. But after that I will be able to get better equipment. And so for right now Im just getting educated on whats out there and figuring out what I need from that. If that makes sense.

what kind of rifle is this scope going on? If you are looking for a budget optic that performs well. SWFA Super Sniper, fixed or variable you decide. Falcon Menace, and numerous others. The only thing good going for Horus is their reticles like Lindy said, and their reticles inside other higher end optics. Stay away from their actual scopes

I am currently looking to replace my horus scope. i have the hawk (lowest model) and it has a H425 reticle. The reticle itself is no good until 6x maybe...
As for the scope - it's decent glass... i made the mistake of not spending more by getting a parallax adjust... i can see things out to 500 yds pretty good. I think the guys above are right... go with a better scope like i'm trying to do... but if you're on more of a budget like i was early this summer... it was worth it for me. I just realized i wanted more in a scope now. I paid $490 for mine brand new and also got the horus ASLI (it's pretty nice to have anticant and angle/cos in one).
The scope is sturdy enough - i've had no issues. My complaint on mine is the knobs are small, but then again, the idea is not to have to turn them to adjust for shooting - that's what the reticle is for, right?
Personally, i don't think the horus reticle is necessary unless you're doing precision shooting and at more of a stationary target of known size/or at a competition. I think i could have gotten away with mildot or that gen2XR reticle for varmint hunting and target shooting.

IMO,
I love the reticles and use holdovers exclusively with the Horus scopes.I have 3 of them.
You might have the same dilemma I have,lack of extra $.
If you don't have the approx $3000 for USO with HV ret then your limited to Horus Vision if you want to use their reticles.
I'll list some + and -'s
+ ballistic program available for use with their different reticles.
+ reasonably affordable and a medium grade scope.
+ once zero'd,no dialing
+ decent glass
+ hard to beat the 8-26x50 predator for the $
- only a 1 year warranty
- customer service isn't the greatest
- tracking issues with turret adjustments
Some personal observations about scopes from reading many posts about them.
Apparently even many high end scopes do not track perfectly true with their turret values.As well as canted reticles,specks of dust stuck on lenses,parallax issues,etc.
High end scopes are 2-5 the $ however the clarity isn't "much" better.
Me personally.I wouldn't buy a new HV Falcon because for $1500 your very close to the high end scope brands.Better off spending more $ on a scope with a lifetime warranty.
The new Vortex tactical's reticle and features might be worth consideration but the only future will tell.

As usual I don't think anyone could have summed it up better!!
I liked the concept, I owned 2 of the "new and improved" falcons. As for dealing with them NEVER will happen again. As for the scopes they are sold and I have moved on.
I have not yet purchased a USO but I have had many talks with John here and on the phone and he was great to deal with.

As usual I don't think anyone could have summed it up better!!
I liked the concept, I owned 2 of the "new and improved" falcons. As for dealing with them NEVER will happen again. As for the scopes they are sold and I have moved on.

Every ballistic program I have ever seen works fine with a Horus reticle, which is just a reticle graduated in mils, like any mildot or milliradian-hashed reticle.

I found this site a year or so ago on a similar quest. As mentioned above, if you want the Horus Reticle you can either take your chances with the company and buy their product (given all the feedback), or pay the premium to use their reticle in someone else's product (given all that feedback, too). I could never rationalize the advantages of the Horus Reticle in a way that permitted me to do either.
I'm pretty cautious about whose kool-aide goes into my shot glass, but this just plain makes good sense.

Given this logic the Horus reticles aren't nearly as mystical (nor mythical) as they first appear. "Neat", for sure. "More Accurate", not hardly. "Easier", that's subjective you still have to do a calculation and reference a known trajectory to get a hit. "Less Dialing", not within 600 yards it's not, don't think that it is because it's not
. "Faster Follow Up Shot", maybe; assuming you can register the feedback from the first round (like in a dirt burm, or a splash on a pretty animated stone tower like appears on their site).
IMHO a person just really has to "want" that reticle to justify it.

I mean for their SMOA reticle but that might be the case for other ballistic programs as well.I don't own nor have used other ballistic programs so I don't know how easy it is to switch from MIL to MOA to SMOA on them.
I assume the ATRAG program from Horus is designed for their system?

It's pretty easy to switch between units on most ballistic programs. However, if you're talking about the IPHY rangefinding reticle on the left side of the H25 reticle, the easiest way to do range calculations is with a Mildot Master, which will do it faster than you can put the data into a ballistic program.
There is nothing unique to Horus reticles on the Atrag program, and Atrag is overpriced and underfeatured compared to most other ballistic programs.
It's pretty easy to switch between units on most ballistic programs. I've got a couple Horus scopes, the first one broke, as installed new. The distributor replaced it no charge, BUT he had a rough time getting squared up.
I like them, they do take a lot of getting used to, but once you understand them they are pretty slick. Not so sure about using it out past 800 yards, I think dialing is still important there. I do have a couple though and like them. I have a NF FFP on request with one, and thinking about another on a USO.
The glass on the HV scopes is just average, there is a lot better out there.

Thanx for the input everyone. Like I said in another post,my first one. Right now I have a Savage 93r17 w/ a center point 4-16x40 with mil dots for a trainer. My next rifle to build is an 20"-24"
AR-15 and that is what I am looking for glass to put on. I know that there are many options out there. So right now the only conclusion that I came to is it must have mil dots. As I am finding the many advantages using a scope that has them even if it is cheep, lol.
