Hotness for 2020?

Depends how far you want to go and how much money you want to spend.

I thought my 300PRC was the 2019 hotness? I built it for 1000 to 2000 yards and it has hit at 2500. Anything longer than that I would build another rifle for it.....if I had access to shoot more than once or twice. I don't see myself building anything longer range for the foreseeable future. I'm actually going to build another rifle for sub 1000 that is higher quality than my current 308/6.5 setups.
So...maybe a higher influx of 6mm builds for 2020.
28 or 30 Nosler up to 1500 yd,and of course a 300NM or 338 LM up to 2000yd,anything beyond that i'd go with a 375 projo.
That’s a bit conservative on the Nosler cartridges.
my 7 saum hammers at a mile and at 1950 yards did quite well.
Hell, my 260 does well at 1500.
I have limited experience with a 338 lapua at 2300 and that wasn’t overly difficult and I was a full on newb then.

I tend to always lean more toward the conservative and more practical shooting limits of a cartridge eventhough they can certainly go beyond that.
I guess one can say the 223 can reach out to 1500,but is that practical.
Like their are guys here shooting 308s out to 1500-2000yd,sure you can, and hit targets every so often.when you can do it much better with a 338LM,300NM or even a smaller wildcat. ,
Hit at what rate and what target size? If you keep the target size at 1 MOA and want anywhere NEAR a 50% hit rate, you're going to want something big like a 338 LM or bigger. Part of the issue will be spotting your misses.
If you just want to be able to say "I hit something (of any size, with any number of shots) at XYZ yardage" then anything will do. Like that PRC. No doubt in my mind you can go set up a 36" target at a mile and make a couple of marks on it, especially right after dawn or right before dusk, but hitting realistic sized targets with realistic hit ratios past a mile is very hard. put up a 18" target at a mile with any wind variability whatsoever, and you're going to have a 10% hit ratio tops. If that's all your're after, fine. But there is no more hot magic in 2020 than there was in 2010 - speed and size matter past 1000 yards.

Love my 28 nosler to the mile (24x24) and pretty consistent when wind is below 7-8 mph.
Been to 2000 with it. Even at that distance, I was able to spot the misses just fine. (and there were plenty of them at 2k) I am positive the main issue is the guy behind the gun.

Come shoot in the wind. Now I’ve heard of a 338 bullet with a bc over 1.0 that might make that true

Because in Eastern Washington and Oregon we never get any kind of wind nor does the wind ever blow on the Oregon coast.

yes that little red dot)300 WM is easy medicine but 6.5CM and 308 will get you there. 300WM, 6.5CM,308.....then PRC's will give you a bump if you buy factory. Otherwise, if you reload, the handholds will perform to factory PRC loads.

I have a place in eastern Oregon I could go 4000 yards.
I’m now researching options
33 or 37xc seem right for me.
My friend is having good luck with the 37xc at the same distances as my 375ct. He is getting the roughly the same AVG FPS as I am with the 400 gr CE lazers. 2916 ish with single digit SD's.
So you have an AXMC with the 338 LM bolt and have shot 33XC and/or 37XC single fed without issue?

That .416 is nice. A friend of my just bought a ULR extreme in .416 for what he considered a good price. I have to say the ELR looks fun and challenging! @ oneshot.onehit tell me about your rifle build i.e action barrel..

Do you have to remove the bolt on an axmc to remove an unfired round that is chambered?

In 2018 and 2019 I used a squeeze bag in the back and a Atlas 5H bi-pod in the front
For 2020 I changed it up with a Edgewood bag in the back and a Phoenix bi-pod up front as shown.
Rifle has been used with good results for

2019 NRA Extreme ELR
2019 Spear Point Finale
Bullets used with “easy on the brass” speed with rifle
2018 - 400 grain 375s running 3360 fps Flat Lines - used with a 375 chambered 35” Bartlein
2019 - 505 grain 416s running 3250 fps Flat Lines
2020 - 550 grain 416s running 3145 fps Flat Lines
I may tweak the load some yet for 2020 but it should float somewhere in that 3145 fps accuracy node.
Pictured is a loaded 260 round for comparison.
