<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">• Studies show that each wolf kills up to 23 elk from November through April; This number does not include those elk killed for food by wolves from May through October. While the number of elk killed per wolf from May through October is
less than the number from November through April, it is still considerable; and that is just the elk
killed for food. These numbers do not account for those elk simply killed by wolves (surplus
killing) and yes, that does happen. Nowhere near the majority of these elk kills are simply the sick
and the old.</div></div>

There are 25 in that picture.

That's 575 Elk killed by April. This is one small part of the Bighorns and one small drop in the bucket of how big the problem is.

Re: Hounds of Hell, Big Horn Mountains, WY

our government and all the tree huggers out there have no clue how big this problem is and will be if it is not handled right now. if you want to see unemployment go thru the roof, than just let the wolves go un checked and more outfitters go out of business and hunting as we know it dissapear. every state relys heavily on the income of hunting licenses, and is the main and in most states the only money that funds the divisions of wildlife. There is no federal funds to support it. no only will each state suffer in wildlife management (like Montana is already) but you look at what each hunter buys every year to support the industry. Like, trucks, travel trailers, campers, grocerys, ammo, guns, clothes, licenses, outfitters, tools, restrauntrs in all the small towns, the list goes on and on. so watch all the wall marts and car dealers and all the others suffer the rath of the wolves and unemployement skyrocket as the hunting goes away and hunters stop spending!

I saw a special the other night on the National Geographic Channel and it looks to me like Uncle Sam is very well aware of the problem but they don't know what to do, can't agree on how to even look for a "correct" solution, and of course some would argue the whole system is dysfunctional. As far as the tree huggers, there are plenty of them in Wyoming that know exactly what is going on but they care more about advancing their own agenda than they care about people. The urban tree huggers are probably just plain clueless and impossible to educate.

KraigWY:

That photo is becoming pretty famous in a hurry. I have heard it attributed to several sources. Are you sure that pack is in the Big Horns?

Re: Hounds of Hell, Big Horn Mountains, WY

OK I screwed up. I got it in an e-mail, suppose to be a Forest Service Picture taken in Circle Park. See it thinking it was in the Big Horns I was really pissed. ( I like the Big Horns, my favorite place on earth).

After calming down I did some reasearch. It was actually taken in Canada.

Sorry for misleading people

Re: Hounds of Hell, Big Horn Mountains, WY

kraig, no worries. They are already there... I was about 50 miles north and east of the Big Horns, mule deer hunting in Montana, and we saw one of them running through the sage 7 or 8 hundred yards out.

While I was out at midnight counting planets and satellites with my bino's I heard them as well.

Re: Hounds of Hell, Big Horn Mountains, WY

either way there are plenty of outfitters out of business because of the loss of elk and deer and as the wolf population is getting larger all the time it will get worse. there is no doubt the government has let it get out of control and is back peddeling now. I have several rancher freinds here in colorado that remember thier grandfathers doing all they could to remove the wolf as it was destroying all game and cattle around. we will never get rid of all of them and I dont think we should. but to reintroduce them into systems and let them just go and take over is a mistake.

Re: Hounds of Hell, Big Horn Mountains, WY

Should be legal to shoot them in the bighorns... we all know there aren't any wolves there
smirk.gif
. So if you should happen to shoot one it'd have to be a coyote or something else right?
laugh.gif

Only yellowstone has wolves.
cool.gif

I heard that in Montana too, just a common dog harassing the cattle and fell off a clift.
