Today, I caught two different groups of men stealing on private property!
This morning, it was on my property, two guys were in an old pickup truck loading up pipe and scrap iron I had on the back of a block of farm land. One guy fled on foot, and the other stayed......unloaded the iron, with persuasion from me, and fled before the sherrif got there. I got his liscense plate, and he has since been arrested.
Then this afternoon I caught another couple men on my neighbor's property looting his shop! I held them at gunpoint ,(finally smarted up and got a pistol in the holster), until the sherrif showed up. They were both arrested with warrants and they had drugs on them.....I don't know if the two trucks were working together.
My question is.....have you noticed the crime rate escalate in your area? I live in a small country community and this kind of stuff is unheard of.

Re: How bad ARE things getting?

Phillip, it's a sign of the times! I don't expect it to get any better any time soon either! Matter of fact it could easily get worse!

Re: How bad ARE things getting?

Yep lot of that going on - we got people stealing HOT WIRE from various electrical stations - sudden power outage because meth freaks figured out how to cut the 2" copper wires..

Mostly home burglary in this area, a few more robberies - although I always laugh when I see them get away with the bank robberies - banks have been robbing other people long enough...

Re: How bad ARE things getting?

People stealing stuff is not new, but it would certainly seem like bad times were here if it happened twice to me in one day!

It's just another sign that the war on drugs is a miserable failure, and probably makes things worse.

Re: How bad ARE things getting?

recently while taking a ride on an old "dumnp road" where every tossed everything into coal mining strip pits, i seen a truck parked on the road. though maybe he was doing something he shouldn't be doing (baiting deer or dumping).

i snuck over the top of one of the culm dumps to take a peek.

he was pulling out metal for scrap. i mean he was REALLY digging to get it out. i walked back to my truck here comes the guy, i said to him in over 25 years being on this mouontain, this is the first time i've seen someone making a withdrawal.

he said he's up there all the time anymore getting scrap metal, just to make rent.

lots of copper pipe being ripped out of vacant / homes for sale in my area too.

had a spree not too long ago of catalytic converters getting cutoff of cars, even on the lot.

Re: How bad ARE things getting?

Just north of me - Madison Wisconsin - they're experiencing a BIG problem with heroin. Of course burglaries and robberies are up. Funny thing is many saw it coming, but city and county officials were in denial.

This could work. I doubt anyone would come looking.

Re: How bad ARE things getting?

Heard on the radio the other day, in Redding, Ca, three guys kicked in a door of a residence and identified themselves as "police" and raided the house. Times are getting tough. But I fear, they are going to get worse.

Here in Tulsa, people are becoming victims of home invasion in the MIDDLE OF THE F*CKING DAY! There's a shooting every week or so, with the most recent happening in broad daylight at 11:30am in an AutoZone parking lot because two freaks were trying to rob a guy.

Daytime home invasions have been happening in Sacramento for quite awhile, 2 years ago a gal my wife worked with, was robbed in the middle of the day. Thieves figure that no one will be home, because they will be at work, so less people to see them do it, and less chance of someone being in the house.

Heck I am thinking it just got a whole lot safer. Good job.

Re: How bad ARE things getting?

Yep, with the plethra of home forclosures and business closeings in South Florida, a vacant house or businesses AC and wiring will be gone within a couple of weeks or months. Also, loads of crooked LEO getting busted. I blame it on the shift in demographics over the past 10-15 years and the general decay of American society.

I'm just glad that I grew up in Florida when I did because the place is a concrete jungle(3rd world shithole) today.

Man accused of stealing copper wire from tower vital to national security St. Lucie County Sheriff

A Fort Pierce man is in custody charged with stealing 300 feet of copper wire. But it's where he stole the wire that raised a few eyebrows.

Over the weekend, 24 year-old John Bonadia was photographed using bolt cutters to take the wire from the USAF microwave repeater tower in St. Lucie County, according to an arrest affidavit.

The affidavit says the tower is vital to national security and if the tower had been hit by lightning without being grounded, hundreds of thousands of dollars of equipment could have been destroyed.

Detectives believe Bonadia has hit the tower at least four times this year. Another arrest is expected in the case

Re: How bad ARE things getting?

Things are going to get much.. much worse before they improve. I think we have passed the PONR from an economic/GDP/taxation point of view.

Rioting and Austerity measures and mass looting will be followed by martial law.

There.. I said it.

Re: How bad ARE things getting?

Yes it is that bad. Some places literally have no jobs. Not even at fast food places. Others have jobs but people are used to making so much money and would not work at a McJob if they had to.

The next collapse will be much worse. It will make this last one look like an appetizer.

Re: How bad ARE things getting?

I thought I was one in a few that think things are getting worse. I work in the IT/Networking industry and we are still shipping jobs over seas. My employer has plenty of cash that they will not bring them back into the country because of the tax codes in the US. They rather expand outside the country while shrinking the workforce here. I worry about the immediate time frame but I worry more about my kids future. I think things will get worse until our living standards are brought down to those in India and China while their will improve.

Re: How bad ARE things getting?

I work in rural Missouri and scrap is the way of life for most of the dopers and shit heads that wont work a real job even if they could. We average 10 to 15 burglaries a week in the county and 5 to 10 call for people stealing scrap off private land.
Yes its going to get worse with unemployment and heroin making a big come back. Some steal to feed their family and others their habit.SO YES IT IS GOING TO GET BAD!

Re: How bad ARE things getting?

No change here in Wisconsin. They say unemployment went down a few 10th's of a percent, but we're not seeing or feeling it.

State is pretty much in turmoil. Recall of the governor is underway, because public and teacher unions are all worked up that they now have to pay a tiny bit of their medical benefits and pension. The real issue is union dues are no longer a payroll deduction with automatic deposits into union accounts. Oh, collective bargaining is limited to salaries only.

Re: How bad ARE things getting?

In Northern Kentucky we have "scrappers" going around stealing copper from houses or even appliances(water heater, washing machine, etc). Most of the ones we catch have drugs on them or have previous drug charges. We caught some people trying to steal the metal plates they put on the road for temporary fixes. They said they thought it was abandoned property.

Re: How bad ARE things getting?

As civilized society continues to crumble, we will see more and more people reverting to primitive, uncivilized acts of animalistic and horrific behavior.

If you think it's bad NOW...you haven't yet seen anything like what we are going to witness on a local and global scale.

Re: How bad ARE things getting?

crime rate is definitely going up all around, it is a sign of the times with the unemployment rates and lots of desperate people, just a couple weeks ago the bank down the road from me got robbed

I being optimistic, but i have to agree with you.
I wasn't that long ago, about 10 years, i used to tell my friends to get gear ready for WTSHTF,and they would look at me like was crazy.
Now they are thinking a little different.

Re: How bad ARE things getting?

Think of this.

How much stress can modern society take before something breaks? With the 2011 drought, climate change, water shortages in the we've experienced this year and in the near future, rising food prices...what does the near future have in store? In fact, according to an article on AGWeb it has been predicted that 2012 will be every bit as bad as this year when you consider freezing temperatures, floods, and drought.

If the predictions of El Nina and El Nino are correct, the worst is yet to come. I read where someone said that scientists are predicting another 10 years of drought for the south. If food prices are bad right now, what would another year or two of drought be like?

During the summer of 2011 some cities in the south came within days of running out of water. If you want to see modern society fall apart, take away 2 things; electricity and water. Without safe drinking water, life as we know it cannot exist. The very thought of a city running out of water is mind boggling.

Has anyone been paying attention to the price of groceries lately? It seems like pork has almost doubled in the past couple of years, milk is a dollar or so more than it was this time last year. I am pretty sure the corn crop failures of 2011 will be affecting the prices of food for a couple of years.

It's almost as if is setting the groundwork....

But for real, I was talking with some friends about what's going on with the world today and we all agreed that we're either

A) Gonna see a second great depression every bit as bad as the first

B) We're gonna hit our breaking point before we can even get to a depression, SHTF and WROL will ensue

C) Global apocalypse and honey badgers replace humans at the top of the totem pole in a new age of existence

Re: How bad ARE things getting?

I'll just add my two cents. Where I live I'd have to say 99% of this town would not know how to use a pipe cutter or wrench to repair a copper pipe much less anything else. That includes Paul Krugman, Van Jones, or Cornel West.

That changes dramatically when you read about Newark, Trenton, or Camden or towns that are near that area.

Just because unemployment goes down doesn't mean people are getting jobs... It's because there unemployment benefits expired. Still jobless just not receiving handouts.

Scumbag Asshats were stealing brass name plates off of gravestones and memorials in Abingdon VA. That is below low...

We haven't begun to see the bottom of the wave yet, we are still careening down towards the bottom.

Re: How bad ARE things getting?

It is going to get worse.

For some...

For others, something else will happen...

Moving on...

I think that we waste our time when we open this can.

Knowing the why of things is more of an academic interest than of a practical one.

I did not need to know why the NVA and/or VC were really, really, and seriously trying to kill me to know that I had to make it a goal to prevent them, or that it might pay to get creatively dedicated to the process.

Dry powder and a clear field of fire goes a lot further than an economic or philosophical treatease, when overall surival and well being are at stake. I think it's really rather more a question of simple and basic priorities...

Did you see the news story about the woman making meth inside the Wal Mart because she was too strapped to buy the chemicals?

Once your serotonin receptors get desensitized and your body chemically addicted, you'll do about anything in the futile chase for the euphoria of that first high.

When a person has placed so low of value on their own life, you can only imagine of what value they consider yours...

Re: How bad ARE things getting?

These scumbags are coming out of the wood work. All Meth driven crimes. These tweakers will stop at nothing. We just prosecuted a team of 3 that cut a steel gate down, then proceeded to cut up a guys bulldozer to go sell for scrap!! Imagine? New job sites are getting hit, the PUD's are getting hit, unoccupied homes, you name it. All in the name of "scrap". Hell, a couple years ago they took the aluminum hand rails off the bridge near my house, two consecutive nights!! One side one night, the other the next, really? Obviously the consequences aren't high enough for some folks. Hell, what ya gonna do? Get caught and get 3 hots and a cot, medical, dental, vision, all those meds you never took on the outside, and in some institutions you get radio, tv, and internet!!!!!!!!!!! I love supporting scum, especially during the Holidays. Makes me warm and fuzzy inside, not!

Re: How bad ARE things getting?

Where I used to live, the slime ripped off the bronze plaques from historic monuments. Love to see some retribution on the 'scrap dealers' who processed them.

Moving up here to the country didn't spare us. The local Veterans' clubs (repeatedly) and the local youth center have also been broken into and robbed.

Military:
Medical
Dental
Vision
3 hots
Barracks
(Pay for tv and internet and buy your own radio)
Go to combat zones

Prison:
Medical
Dental
Vision
3 hots
Cell
TV
Internet
Radio
Don't go to combat zones

So other than getting paid as a military working personal, seems like prison get more benefits. Hell Utah had a problem of people starting fires to get thrown in jail.

Re: How bad ARE things getting?

Scumbags stripped my grandmothers house of copper, stove, freezer, washer, Cast Iron Heater, outside water pump. I guess there is nothing else to do in screven co, than to steal other peoples shit. On a brighter note: Russian Billionaire's Daughter Buys NYC Condo for Record $88 Million, but a teacher or policeman with a wife and 3 kids can't get a loan to buy a 200,000.00 house. Hope for the Best, Prepare for the Worse.
