Rifle Scopes How Critical is Reticle Center to You?

I was recently PM'd from another member here asking me to check the reticle centering on my new AMG as he had recently received one and noticed the reticle was not perfectly centered in the view. He said when cranked up to 24X, his left windage went up to 8.1 mil and right windage up to 8.4 mil. That would suggest the centering is off by .15 mil

I looked at mine on the same setting and saw 8.3 on the left and 8.2 on the right, so mine I see .05 mil.

I didn't a search on the subject here on the hide and found an old post discussing the same topic. The majority of responders said this within reason, while a couple said you should not expect less than perfect. Honestly, I have never looked for this before and this is my 1st FFP scope and the highest end piece Inhave ever owned.

I know several will say that the AMG is not a top tier scope, but it is certainly in the Northern Hemishpere of scope grades..

What do you think?

You should be tracking test any new optic anyhow. If it tracks and is barely noticeable, screw it. If it doesn't track then obviously send it back.

Not to be confused with reticle cant. If it's canted then it's getting sent back regardless. Again, the tracking test is key.

Good advice. I don't think I've ever tested tracking on a scope before. Just did some searching and found the sniper's hide tracking target and ordered a 3 pack.

Have you perhaps considered it isn’t your scope but your rail, rifle or ammo?

If you are concerned with those last .2 mil when you have 8 Mils of windage, you’ve got much bigger problems.... like sand blowing up your keester.. or that tornado about to touch down. ;)

Just let it go... you’ll be happier in life.

People forget that every dimension and specification in every man-made product has an allowable variation from nominal.

Yes, even top tier products do. The more you pay for something, TYPICALLY the smaller that allowable variation is.

Just checked my TT525. It's the gen2xr so I don't have as detailed windage stadia as the Amg, but it shows it favors right just a smidge. It definitely tracks perfectly though which is the most important part.
