How do you deal with eye relief change?

I've been shooting nrl22 for about a year now. I used to shoot service rifle back in the 80's when I was a teenager, as well as 50 foot smallbore. My fundamentals are ok, not great but ok. There's lots of improvement to be made for sure. My biggest trouble is getting the hang of using a scope in any shooting other than off the bench. I just can't seem to get comfortable behind the glass. I'm getting my cheek weld dialed in with a stock pack from triad tactial. Still working on it but its getting better. I know having a consistent cheek weld is really important. What I'm really having trouble with is the change in eye relief that comes with changing power on the scope. You go from 6x to 24x and your eye relief changes dramatically. At least with the scope I'm using, I've got an athlon argos btr on the rifle now, but I've got a 5-25 midas tac coming. I don't believe that will help the problem but the major upgrade in glass should be better on my eyes at least.

So how do you deal with constant eye relief changes? Fight the stock, use an adjustable buttplate, or something else?

I’m curious also. I shot a guys cheap scope yesterday and it seemed to have a very tight eye box at high magnification. He’s 5’4” and I’m 6’4” and the rifle was set up for him, so that made it worse, but it was uncomfortable to shoot.

Sound like a setup problem if you are noticing that big a change, I would recommend looking at how you set the scope up, for example, did you do it on max power, after the ocular was focused with the parallax set to infinity?

But lowering the power should open up the eye relief, and make it more forgiving

However I a feeling you can do for a bit of an adjustment.

The scope I have the most issue with from low to high power I adjusted it to fit me best at max power.
I set up the length of pull and cheek rest hieght with it maxed out and focused at my typical for me longest distance of 1200 yards.
That has pretty much eliminated most of the issues I had initially of getting behind it and shooting as close as 50 yards on low power all the way out to what I use as max range.

I don't remember exactly how I set it up unfortunately. I'll be pulling the scope off the rifle this week sometime for the new one. Do you have a video up on rifle set up Lowlight?

Max range I shoot at right now is around 130 yards, the range I have closest to me is 100 yards. I'll see what I can do about setting the rifle up while can look through it at range and max magnification.

You don't have to actually shoot at 1000 yards or more but I would recommend setting the scope up that way so you can get your parralax settings done right and that should help you sort out the issue your having.
I'm sure Lowlight will chime in with a recommendation as how to proceed, I just know what works for me and he and many others on here are more knowledgeable than me.
