Dont kill me for asking this question but I am new to reloading but have been shooting guns for years. I got into reloading when ammo was scarce.
I was wondering how you get the correct shoulder bump on brass.
I mainly reload for .223(AR-15), 6.5 Grendel (AR-Platform) and
300WM (Bolt). When I recieved the dies (Forester BR Die set)
I followed the directions of how to set the pin. (it said in the directions the dies come so you dont have to adjust but I checked anyway)
I have been reloading with the dies the way the directions say but is there another way to check shoulder bump? A better way?

Thanks

I followed the directions of how to set the pin. setting the pin is for the neck resizing and the decapping of the primer. shoulder bump is to prevent you from resizing your brass more than .001 to .002 from the size it left the chamber. remember that all chambers are different and that once you resize for one rifle it will most likely not apply to another rifle
you need a way to measure the base of the neck or the shoulder of the removed "shot" cartridge . I use a comparitor this requires you to take the mesurement from that shoulder to the base of the brass and say its 1.300 then you size the brass and most likely will see it grow longer by .002 or so initially overall length . this is normal and the reason that brass will have to be trimmed at some time . next use the measurement from the shoulder to the base and continue to move the die down a little at a time till the measurement is .001 to .002 less than original .
looks like tou need to buy a comapritor as I think this would be the easiest for you (it said in the directions the dies come so you dont have to adjust but I checked anyway)
