There's a word for that - murder.
She walked into somebody's private residence while not on official duty and shot them to death; the fact 1. she was in the wrong apartment and 2. she has a badge is utterly immaterial to the situation.
She should be arrested, tried, and IMO convicted.
Related side tangent - after Nikegate this past week, this event will do NOTHING to silence those voices and only give them more credibility.

None of that adds up. I'm guessing drugs are involved somehow.
I'm going to suggest it probably went down like this:
White, female police officer, probably a SJW all high on power and "respect my authority"
Drunk or doing something "recreational" breaks into somebody's apartment drunkenly/drugged thinking it was hers
Sees some black man who doesn't grovel at her precious white female SJW police feet within 1/2 of a second
Shoots him dead because well... I'll get away with it....
What gets me upset is the response from the Dallas Police Department (run by a bunch of Communist SJW types).
We can't let you know who she is to "protect" her... B.S.
We'll send her home for a little vacation then worry about what to do later... B.S.
No appology, no reaching out to the victim's family right away.
Ask the stupid Dallas Police Chief how they would be handling it if some neighbor walked into the house/apartment of one of their police officers drunkenly and gunned them down dead? ... They would be plastering their name & face all over the news media and have them in jail (if they made it there) on Murder and any other charges they could drum up... The prosecutors would be demanding million dollar bail even if it was a drunken accident.

This is exactly why the police get a bad name as a whole.
She should have been cooling her heels in jail that night waiting formal charges and the department should have been loudly condemning her actions. (The fact that she admitted she thought she was in her own apartment pretty much nixes any doubt about her guilt in the killing).
In Texas Law you can't claim "fear for your life" when you are the trespasser, burglar or criminal. She obviously by her own statement admitted she had no legal reason to trespass into the apartment and was not doing any "law enforcement" stuff.
Of course it goes without saying that the evil bitch that shot the guy will not have to pay the settlement out of pocket, neither will it have to come out of the police budget... Rather the taxpayers will be forking out for what will most likely be a multi million dollar settlement.
If you have NO legal authority as a police officer to be somewhere and are breaking into somebody's home... you are doing a criminal action... your being a police officer should not protect you as a get out of murder free card.
Refusing to treat a police officer who commits a crime the same way you treat anyone else who did the same killing only makes people more upset. We don't let other killers just walk around with a promise to one day come back when someone decides to file charges if they can't think of a way out.
If she doesn't wind up with a very long jail term, then we just might have to re-think if the police in Dallas should be trusted at all.

two tiered justice from DC on down, this is what breeds revolutions.
First off, how did she just walk into the wrong apartment? Does anyone in an apartment not lock their doors these days? Secondly, how do you not immediately know it is not your apartment? As QuickNDirty said something is not right here. I will be watching the local news tonight to see what is mentioned about the story.

Another consideration that would most definitely apply to all civilians would be was there a blood alcohol level or full drug screening conducted promptly after the incident while sitting in jail for the initial cool off period regardless of wrong or right.
In this case obviously in the wrong.
I foresee some mass looting and burning shit down, I mean civilized public protest soon to follow. It would be appropriate if the destruction and looting were isolated to the DPD but I don't think they keep a stockpile of stereo equipment and Nike shoes on hand so that probably won't happen.
Not going to try and excuse her actions, they're inexcusable. But I will tell of how things like this can happen, in a scenario at least as I have zero personal knowledge of this case other than what's in the article.
There's a philosophy I was taught in one of my many courses of primary vs. secondary vision, pretty much conscious and subconscious thinking. Think when you're driving down the road and you're well rested and fully alert, you're paying close attention to the drive and on the watch for any hazards that you may encounter. That's primary vision. When you're tired, on your routine commute that you've done hundreds if not thousands of times, your mind is drifting to the day's events or focusing on the radio conversation, and all the sudden you realize you're at your turn and about to miss it, or you miss it outright and don't realize it until your subconscious picks up that you're now in unfamiliar territory. That's secondary vision.
After pulling a shift on duty, this officer went from being switched on the whole time, in Cooper's Condition Yellow to Red the entire eight (plus) hours, and that is mentally exhausting to the point of being physically exhausting. She gets off shift, drives home, and mentally shuts down to Condition White combined with being in secondary vision. Apartment buildings pretty much all look the same, it's not hard when exhausted to walk to the wrong apartment. I've done the same at one of our camps that had thirty buildings that all looked exactly the same, accidentally walked into the wrong building and put my hand on a doorknob when I immediately realized my name wasn't on the door - Wrong building dumbass, wake the fuck up.

That she then went to full tunnel vision, never realizing she was in unfamiliar surroundings, is really shitty. Cops need to be held to the same standard, these incidents are losing the war, when you have people like me not trusting the badge anymore the war is about done. It's an apartment, not a hotel room. People leave their apartment doors unlocked all the time. Again though, there's nothing saying otherwise either, all of it is speculation at this point by anyone not with DPD and/or TBI.
And Army, I agree with you and others screaming about two tiered justice and manslaughter not being severe enough, but remember this shit happened just last night. That there's already manslaughter charges on her is unusual, and you can count there may very well be increased charges come Grand Jury time. Give it time to play out, the poor dead guy isn't even cold yet.

Many of those complexes in Dallas are layed out in such a way, that you could easily go to the wrong apartment. You go out say the north gate to and from work, but the south gate to and from the grocery store. The layout is identical coming in each gate, and you are used to coming in both. So late at night, exhausted you are off by 180 degrees, you go to the wrong apartment. Since all the doors are all the same type with the same hardware, your key opens other doors, you just don't know which ones.
It is possible that she actually put her key in and unlocked that door. Not saying it happened, but I have seen it before.

if you are stupid enough to go into the wrong apartment and shoot the owner, you should never have been in uniform in the first place.
I may be totally wrong as to the race as they didn't actually say the race of the woman who shot the apartment resident. I am totally guessing at it.
(however when crucial facts are left out of a report, I tend to think it's because they are trying to limit the public blow back so I assume whatever would be the most inflammatory)
However from experience, women are the ones you don't want to deal with when coming into contact with authority figures, not just in this country but even more so in other countries.
Some of us knew that many years ago, for example when crossing borders don't pick a line with a female immigration officer unless you want to get kicked out for some reason. Or for example really mind your manners and meekness at the visa office unless you want that female staffer to slip this little tiny black spot onto one of your passport pages and you get all kinds of fun at passport control.

The way I read it, they would need to establish that she was committing a burglary ( or some other felony ) in order to charge her with capital murder (their version of 1st Degree Murder) . Just based on the public version of the story she was probably closer to some level of trespass vs actual burglary.
In most places, intent tends to be the determining factor on the severity of the charge. If they can't establish that she had criminal intent, then a charge of actual Murder is pretty much out. That goes for everyone, cops and civilians alike.
You will never see the words "Right & Wrong" written in a criminal code. The law doesn't deal with that, nor does it often have much to do with "justice".
Thanks to social engineering there are a LOT of people in uniform that fall into that category.

If they did not know each other, the victim never had a chance. Had he in his rightful place shot and killed her thinking she was robbing him the responding officers would have made sure he never made it to jail alive. Reports would have been written he was combative or reached or his gun when they arrived and put him down. Sucks, hope the family gets some justice.

When I lived in an apartment I always put a "tell" in the door. Usually a gum wrapper. When I opened the door if I saw the wrapper flutter to the floor I could be confident that no one had come into the apartment while I was gone. (Now I use a German Shepard.) If I opened the door and did not see the tell I would have had to carefully assess what to do.
OK, I'll be the first to go there....Affirmative action hire? If so this is why we need Supreme court Justices who will back those programs up, which is why we need to support Republicans in November.
Most police are professionals, and most cop killers who surrender without further resistance make it to jail and have their day in court.

Now there are 2 different "ear" witnesses that have given statements that they heard "Cop Talk"..specifically "Open Up, Open Up" and lots of commotion in the apartment.----IF that is the case then the "I thought it was my apartment" is not going to hold weight much longer.
And another neighbor upon arriving home was escorted to his apartment by Police and having the Police tell him where to watch out for the blood.....----All public reports are stating the shooting was inside the apartment, yet there is enough blood in hallway for another neighbor to be told to watch out for it?
