How good (or not) is PMC .223 Brass?

Re: How good (or not) is PMC .223 Brass?

Good to know, and thanks. I thought it was probably still good stuff, but my info was from mid 1980s.

Dunno whether to decrimp those primer pockets or sell it. Got 290 or so pieces the other day...

The primer pockets are really aggressively crimped. After running them through a reamer about 40% of primers still failed to seat or were crushed. I would recommend that you swage them and also hit it with a deburring tool afterwards.

I nave not fired any PMC rifle brass.

But in the mid to late 1980s I shot a lot of their pistol brass. Mainly 45 acp and 38 spl. It has good heavy weight brass. You could load it several times. The first year they started importing it, Hanson Cartridge Company sold it at a very modest price, compared to other commercial offerings.

Nearly all of it with the red ring around the primer pocket requires pocket work for the first reloading. I quit using it. I shoot a lot of range brass, and there's too much Rem, Horn, and other brands requiring less work to be bothered with it.

I reamed the pockets and cut them down to make 300 Whisper brass. So far I have gotten several loadings, but that has been with low pressure sub sonic loads.

I bought 1000 once fired PMC from Bushmaster. I found it to be very good brass. It was VERY dirty when I got it but that is not their fault. I also found the crimp to be deeper than most, but, once I swagged them the brass was good. I would use it in the future if I had the chance.
