How I go about the long range shot,
and team dialog explained.

The day prior to the shot I get on the internet and pull up Google maps or Google Earth and look at aerial & satellite imagery of the AO (Area of Operation) I will be shooting in. Hopefully I already know or nearly know what my FFP (final firing position) will be as well as the area the target will be in. This let’s me take note of:
The rest is here...

Re: How I go about the Long Range shot/team dialog

TresMon, in your post you mentioned that you use Google Earth to range your target. I have used Google Earth in the past but was unaware of the ruler feature that lets you calculate distances. That is a big bonus now for scouting and I thank you for bringing that to light. My question is, in your experience, how accurate has Google Earth been in ranging targets from you FFP? I have played with it a bit using places I am familiar with distance wise and I find it to be off (but not by much) from the actual distance. I also noticed that zooming in or out will give me a variance in distance. I'm assuming this is one of those things where "it is what it is" and probably needs to be used in conjunction with other ranging methods. Just wondering how useful you've found it to be. Thanks.

I think you need to sign up for a google maps account for that feature. Pretty close guestimates but I don't think it takes elevations into consideration. It's a good free tool to use and will get you in the ballpark.

You can download Google earth for free and it has the ruler to measure in many different units and also will tell you the elevation and lot/longs as well. The coordinates have been accurate to with a couple of feet for me and the distance ruler tool to within a couple of yards of a range finder. I use it all the time.

If you have a recent (free) version, the "ruler" should be on the tool bar at the top.

If you have a recent version and there's no toolbar, click "View" in the GE menu and make sure "Toolbar" is checked.

Re: How I go about the Long Range shot/team dialog

Google Earth / Google Maps seem to be (like said above) pretty frekin close! I estimated the distance from the corner of one building to the corner of another. I eye balled it @ about 360yds, Google Maps gave me 377.33, google earth gave me 365. A borrowed range finder dialed it in at 380. I like it, and use it frequently!

To the OP: very nice!

Near my home there is a Private air strip. I google maps ruler'd it and wrote down the figure. I came back by with my laser and it was within 7 yards, at a range of like 1122 yards!

Thanks for the comments.
