I have an LMT MWSE (semiauto AR 308) rifle, and a Nightforce 12-42 x56mm benchrest scope. This scope has a 30mm body, and has 40 MOA internal adjsutment range for both elevation and windage.
I currently have Nightforce rings mounting it, but have realized that I really would like to have a QD mount - as long as it reliably returns to zero, or darn close. I'd like the QD capability for 2 reasons:
1. Dismount the scope when stripping the rifle down for cleaning, rather than leave the scope near all the chemicals involved.
2. Be able to dismount the scope and use open sights, when I want to shoot closer range than 12-42 is appropriate for.
I have been looking at the robust LaRue QD OBR 30mm one-piece mount, depsite its expense, because many people have told me that it DOES reliably return to zero after dsmounting and remounting. However, this mount contains no built-in MOA slope, despite that being a common practice for scope mounts, as the LaRue OBR rifle it was developed for has 20 MOA built into its integral Picatinny rail.
I will be firing 308 only, out of a 16 inch barrel, with moderate loadings that center around 175g Sierra Matchking and basically seek to replicate the ballistics of Federal Gold medal 175g out of a 16 inch barrel.
Will the absence of built in MOA in the mount be an issue if my shooting is unlikely to ever exceed 700 yards at most?
If so, what other one-piece, robust QD mounts should I look at?
