How much does it cost to change a barrel? by this I mean;

1. the cost of labour?

2. does the action need to be blueprinted again (by this I mean I had the action blueprinted the first time I put a new barrel on)

3. plus other work

So aside from the cost of the barrel, what would the price be in general?

Re: How much does it cost to change a barrel

Barrels around $320-$330

Chambering $250-300

Around $600-$700 dollars, not including threading for brake or silencer.

Those are good numbers but also have to remember to refinish the barrel unless you plan to paint it yourself.

I'm lucky, my smith is not quite so high.

My last new barrel was $150 plus the barrel. (then I had the whole rifle ceracoated so it was more)

The other option is if you have a Savage, you buy a prefit barrel from one of several smiths who sell them for $350 to $400 and change it yourself. All you need is a barrel vice, wrench, and go/nogo tools

$250 for most standard re-barreling, depending on the caliber. The action would not need to be re-blueprinted unless it was done incorrectly the first time. If you re-barrel with a stainless blank, it could simply be blasted matte with glass beads, which I throw in and would save you refinishing costs. If it's a 700, normally the recoil lug should be re-bedded. If that's all the bedding needed, I throw that in as well. If the barrel is the same size as the old one and it's already been floated, you shouldn't need to mess with anything else. However, if you're going with a larger barrel and the barrel channel needs to be modified to float, that adds a little cost. There's a bunch of factors, but $250-$300 in labor is a good estimate for the entire job.
