Clean or don't clean seems to be personal preference. Just make sure you have the right equipment, and try not to go in there w/ a brush on a Dewalt!

I used to clean after every weekend shoot. I have recently changed to cleaning every 200 rounds or so. It has not been a problem with accuracy. Very surpassing to me. And a lot more fun coming home after the range with three rifles.

what level of quality are you talkin on the barrel? on my surgeon scalpel 300wm with kreiger barrel id go 500rds and it would still drill. i'd clean it just to be preventative but never had any accuracy issues.and when i did clean it id soak it with wipe out patch out and patch would come out clean after 3 swipes so it never really had much buildup anyway.quality barrel is going to make your job ALOT easier

Your rifle will tell you when it needs cleaned! Just like it will tell you what bullets it wants to shoot. You just have to listen to it.
As you can tell I don't clean the bore much on my rifles. I will run a oil batch followed by a dry patch or a bore snake to get the powder out.

Just bore snake it when it needs it. I carry 4 one for bore cleaner 1 to dry 1 for oil and 1 to dry haven't used a rod in years. The best thing is you can wash them after you use them.

It will depend on the barrel and the quality of chambering done to that barrel + a few other unrelated factors such as bullet makeup and MV.
Bottom line? If your accuracy sucks. Clean it. If it gets better, clean it again when it sucks. My .260 has over 1800 rds. through it and has been cleaned 3 times. My first 300WM barrel needed to be cleaned about every 25 rounds. My second barrel needs to be cleaned about every 500 rds. or so.

i dunno, i'm old school in cleaning i guess. i clean my firearms (all of 'em) after every shoot. the only exception is hunting. my deer gun gets bore snaked if i shoot it before the season ends.
when i clean my rifles, i oil everything. in the case of my walnut stocked deer rifle, i oil the stock after i clean it too. i like my firearms looking sharp!
if i'm going back into the woods, i don't oil at all. i know that my M77 is going to operate JUUUST fine without oiling. then, when deer camp is finished, i clean it before going home.

Action. Yes.
Barrel. No... all you're doing is accelerating wear. If you're shooting a hunting rifle, you won't notice or care. If you put 2000 rds. a year through a match rifle, you will absolutely miss that additional barrel life. And accuracy. A clean barrel will not shoot like a normally fouled barrel, so more barrel wear to foul the barrel. Waste of time and money. But if it makes you feel better...

I wipe the bolt and chamber after every range trip and only clean the bore when accuracy drop off, no matter what caliber.
Cleaning a rifle completely after every shoot is like going to the car wash and getting an oil change after every trip, makes no sense to me.

cleaning your rifle depends on where you live and how much you shoot.
are you near the ocean, salt in air screws up barrels worse than carbon.
what type of bullets are you shooting, smk, or lead?
as a general rule, bore snake the fucker after every range session.

I clean my bore after every hunt I go to, and during the off season I don't clean it unless accuracy drops off.

A custom FN mauser I had a few years ago in 25-06 just didn't seem to foul out. My stock sendero 300wm needs cleaned before it hits 80 rounds. See what the rifle wants.

One of my 300 Win Mags is a Winchester XPR. Got it on sale so thought I'd try it out as one of my hunting rifles. During break-in and load development it was a tack driver. By the time I'd settled on a load for it, the accuracy went to crap and continually got worse. Last time I shot it, it was getting like 3" groups! I put it in the safe and just forgot about it as I have plenty of other rifles and I eventually planned to sell or trade it.
I recently saw a video saying that some 300 WMs will have to be cleaned every 15-20 rounds or you'll start seeing this. I'd guess I have around 100-150 rounds thru it and I've never cleaned it. I'm going to give it a try and see what happens. Apparently (at least according to this video), that cartridge is known for leaving a lot of fouling in your barrel. IL
I am skeptical, though. I have 2 more 300s and they've got ALOT more rounds thru them. Both are still shooting sub MOA and haven't been cleaned. They do have heavier barrels, though, so that could be why. I don't know.

300 win mag is NOT some pampered 6 mm pup all it needs is just like any other firearm ....shoot it clean the barrel and wipe the rest down then inspect , if you shoot it more frequently clean the barrel more frequently , lube the bolt once a while . Mine is over 45 years old with hundred of rounds through it with no HBO drama
