Anyone have experience with a .45 raptor? I want to build one that is integrally supressed with the total length of barrel/ supressor at 16" and real lightweight. Any ideas on functionality? I assume ill have to build a switchable gas block to run subs and supers.

I just finished a 45 raptor build, haven't even had time to shoot it yet. But I just went 16", didn't want to deal with tax stamp or pistol route. Yea, I would suggest adjustable gas for sure and a heavy buffer. My guess would be that you would be able to shoot supers and subs on the same gas setting once you got it tuned though.

But since you are wanting short barrel and light, not max performance from the round. Have you run numbers to see if with a short barrel the 450 bushmaster or 458 socom will come close to a raptor with a short barrel? Would save you a ton of weight.

My build is:
Satern 16" barrel
PSA upper/lower that I had lying in the closet
12" Midwest Industries Handguard
Burris Veracity 2-10.
Luth mba-4 stock.

Came in at like 9.8 lbs.

Sounds more like you want a 458 socom. The AR10 platform is kind of excessive unless you really need the mag capacity for the performance you are looking for. Especially if you want it to run suppressed. (375 Raptor appears to be a different story)

The socom will launch 500+gr pills subsonic and function the action and also run some heavy hitting super ammo. All while being able to buy brass and dies and barrels with the benefit of running out of standard AR15 mags at a hefty weight savings.

Im looking to get max energy in a compact form, and have a subsonic option. I will build a switchable gas block if necessary, i.e. a micro moa govnah or noveske switchblock.
If the socom is that close perfect, but i like using .308 brass, as i have a couple thousand fed.

You can use 460 s&w data for the 45 raptor on short barrels to get an idea, since the 45 raptor is just a rimless 460.

And as far as gas blocks, I think you will be ok with any adjustable one. You shouldn't need a switchable one unless you just want one. Once you get the adjustable gas set, you should be able to run supers and subs on the same gas setting.

Here is a 460 test on different barrel lengths

Forward543,

The 458 Socom will deliver much more performance being subsonic due to availability of bullets (.458 for Socom and .452 for the Raptor).

The 458 Socom delivers 45-70 performance in a much smaller lighter package semi auto package. 45-70 is an extremely capable round.

Just food for thought. I think 45 raptor would be a much better round if it was setup for the better .458 bullets.

I did a .45 Raptor (18" bbl) but haven't been able to get it to feed so haven't even shot it. I've got the Medesha magazine but it's still going to need some work. Haven't really sat down and tried to figure out but be prepared for issues.

what bullet are you shooting? I had issues with the ftx's feeding. I quit using them, xtp mags have been great.

Im using standard 10 round Pmag 308 mags.
I filed the ribs off in the middle of the mag, that run from top to bottom.
Works great

Before I hack up a PMag, are you talking about the two ribs on the inside of each side? No spacer to keep rounds from going forward or feed ramp(s) like the Medesha mags use?

A problem I saw w/ Medesha mag is it bulged when loaded and seemed like too much spring pressure. I've only got a 5 round for now. He was supposed to get back with me when he had 10rds but never did and I just let it go.

This is a view from the bottom of the mag
I'm not using a spacer in the front of the mag, because I'm using longer high BC bullets that so I have a @2.7" COAL.
So they fit and feed from the modified mag pretty good.
The shortest loaded round i can reliably feed from the mag is @ 2.35 to 2.4" long. Any shorter and it jams.
