Gunsmithing How to fix stock help

So have an old Remington that I stripped the varnish off of and was just going to oil and wax. I love this finish and have done it to at least 6 older wood guns now. I have however never ran into this problem before and would like some expert hide advice on how to fix the white ring or options of changing it if there out there. Thanks in advance.

You can cut that old one off, screw and glue a cheap replacement like this one on, if it's going to drive you nuts.

You could try some heat and see if it will break loose. You could also try a thin bladed saw and cut it off.

If you just want to take out the white piece you might try a very narrow chisel and a lot of patience to see if you can cut it out and then slide in a replacement material.

You can pick up white epoxy at Lowe's/home despot and carefully fill it in with a toothpick or the like, then sand it. Cheap fix but takes a little time.

Wrap tape around wood right at the edge of the white.
Get a paint marker from the hardware store in the wood varnish isle that matches the color.
Paint.
Finish stock.

Or

Tape wood at edge of white.
Take permanent marker to the white.
Finish stock.

Or

Leave as is.
Finish stock.
If using varnish it should darken some.

I'm with those who say to find a way to remove the cap and white spacer. I think heat and a sharp knife like an X-Acto would be my first try.

Then throw the spacer in the trash and either refinish the pistol grip without the cap or fit a new one. If you're going to keep the end cap don't reuse that cheap POS black plastic one. I cannot stand the look of white line spacers on stocks. They look incredibly stupid, like whitewall tires on a modern car.
