I just bought a new Colt 6920. I want to put a new Colt 10" Commando upper on it. I know that's not legal without having the proper paperwork completed and having the tax stamp paid for...so where do I start?
You will need to file two copies of 5320.1 and one or two copies of 5330.20 and a check for $200. Oh and two sets of finger prints on ...... I'm not seeing the form right now. You may need to call to get some now.
There is also some helpful threads on AR15.com, silencertalk.com, Silencerresearch.com .
Or go to http://www.titleii.com and complete the forms there. You will also need two passport photos for the 5320. Also the finger print cards have to have the new ATF ORI on them. I cant remember exactly but I think it is in Goergia. My local and reginal office did not have the correct form and had to get them mailed out. Go check the armory section of AR15 .com lot sof NFA stuff there.
Make sure that you print those forms on one page (front and back) as oppose to two separate pages. Big brother doesn't like that. It may delay your approval. Good luck.

Heads up..... Some of those forms are out of date and newer versions are available from the BATF.
Ok, I'm ready to get started on this. As far as Chief Law Enforcement officer goes...Can I use the Chief of Police in my township or do I have to use the Sheriff? Also, for the forms, would I be better off to just call the ATF and request them?...then they could explain the process to me, maybe.
I just got a new Colt 6933 and the whole process took close to 4 months. I had a little problem with my Chief of Police as he didn't understand that a less than 16" barrel COULD be legal by going through the proper process. Converting an already non SBR to an SBR takes different paperwork than what I had to go through. Good luck.
