Gentlemen, Santa was kind enough to bring me a LMT CQB 16" for one of my Xmas pressies. Now my question is how do I mount my ACOG so it co witnesses with the rifle sights or so it is above the rifle sights and is easily removable. It already has the screw mount on it and fits fine but is off for alignment. Any advice or experience is greatly appreciated. I am cheap so getting recommendations before I spend money seems logical to me. Thanks again Gentlemen.

Re: How to mount my ACOG on my LMT?????????

I think your going to have a hell of a time getting an ACOG to Cowitness. Get a Larue mount and you can take it off anytime needed for Iron sights.

Re: How to mount my ACOG on my LMT?????????

You cannot cowitness an ACOG. You need to use a flip down rear sight and then mount the ACOG with the included mount or use a LaRue QD Mount (suggested).

ETA:

Cowitnessing is ONLY for 1x optics where the iron sights are still visible through the optic (Aimpoint, EOTech, etc.) Cowitnessing will not work with magnified optics.

Re: How to mount my ACOG on my LMT?????????

As stated, you don't co-witness an ACOG, which is why models have back up irons on top.

The best mount is the GDI R-COMM B Model, which allows for the ACOG to mounted at the correct eye relief back over the charging handle while also allowing for Back Up Irons to be mounted underneath it. It has a single throw lever with absolutely no POI shift and is the mount adopted by the USMC. I don't know if they allow for open civilian sales, but its the ACOG mount we use and think it is heads and tails above the Larue.

Do a search for GDI and RCOMM and see if they will sell you one.

This is their M1A / M14 mount...

Ya, that is one, the B Model is for a back up iron to mount under it... still, the E Model is awesome as well, we use the heck out of the GDI stuff.

Re: How to mount my ACOG on my LMT?????????

NO Co-Witness with the acog! However SOME have integral irons that can work in need. LL...from the picture only, not a fan of the GDI mount. My thoughts, 1. levers pointing to rear, but on left, not above ejection port, and 2. (2) lever locking devices on rail will help solidify the re-mount. I say #2 as I cannot see the bottom of the rail, mounting point, and cannot surmise how solid it is just from that photo. I want to touch, feel, shoot, analyze.

I've used A.R.MS. mount and they leave something to be desired. Of all that I have used, LaRue is GTG. If there is something better, I would like to try it first hand!

If GDI works, I want to try one.

EDIT: After reading the whole other thread, pull or lock this if you need to. Sorry if any probs. Jeff.

Re: How to mount my ACOG on my LMT?????????

Have never used the GDI, but based on lowlights and others comments would have no problem using one.

That being said you certainly cannot go wrong with Larue's products. I have a lot of his products and have never been disappointed.

Although the GDI mounts are nice, your LaRue will serve you just fine. I have used about 20 different LaRue mounts for everything from ACOGs and Aimpoint T1 all the way to Surefire flashlights and AN/PEQ-2s. They are top quality.

Re: How to mount my ACOG on my LMT?????????

I see no reason to use anything other than Larue. Especially when that GDI costs more.

Why is it that with that GDI mount only the front half of it actually attaches to the rail?

ummmm??

I believe Mark will accept the mount back for full refund if you aren't happy with it. Or you could sell it easily and get the GDI if you want.

And that would be a rookie move. There is nothing wrong with what he got in any way.

Anyone out there have a "my Larue gear sucks ass" story??

Didn't think so.

A "rookie move"? LOL, OK. Well, it is an option for him.

Re: How to mount my ACOG on my LMT?????????

Has anyone tried to use Steve's coupon code? It didn't work for me (yes, I registered and logged in), perhaps 10 people have already purchased the mount.

Yes a "rookie move".

See one definition of that is when you replace gear that is perfectly fine with other gear that is more expensive for no good reason.

On another note:

So anyone want to chime in and tell me why only half of that other mount actually attaches to the picatinny rail??

Personally I am always trying to find ways to improve my gear.

The ARMS 19S ACOG mount I have is fine but personally I find it is neither repeatable nor consistent in holding zero if removed and replaced.

The Larue LT100 (the model I've ordered) has the perceived benefit of having a dual lever mount and the ability to adjust the tension of the mount on the rail - time and experience will tell if this is a more secure/repeatable system.

...sure, ARMS make a dual lever ACOG mount but at $145.00 it is more expensive than the $125.00 Larue charge.

Having had ARMS mounts on a number of rifles and accessories over the years I have, in the main, been very pleased with their performance.

On this occasion, and having read many good things about Larue, I thought I'd give an alternative a try.

Sure, some of the comments concernng their staffs' attitude at SHOT Show and ML's "contribution" to Frank's thread on alternatives to BUIS may raise a few eyebrows...but hey, I'm not marrying the guys, just using a bit of their kit!

The only "mistake" I was concerned about was whether there was a better alternative out there.....the GDI

Re: How to mount my ACOG on my LMT?????????

Am I correct in my understanding that there are at least two variants of the GDI R-COMM mount, the B–Model and the E-Model, and that the difference between the two models is the B-Model is designed to permit a BUIS to be mounted on the rail below the mount? What is the difference in mount height, the distance between the top of the rail and the centerline of the ACOG scope or some similar measurement, between the two models? There are at least two places that sell the E-Model, but I have not been able to find any place that sells the B-Model. Does anyone know where a B-Model can be purchased?

Martin

Re: How to mount my ACOG on my LMT?????????

You may not be correct that the E model will not be high enough to allow a BUIS underneath the ACOG. It might simply be a later, improved version. So, standby until some of these are mounted and people with BUIS can report in.

because having a large clamping surface area that applies force laterally and evenly to two angled facets is as secure as having two very small areas of contact on the underside of the rail ?
