how to sell rifle across state?

No you can ship a long arm ( not handgun) to any FFL in the US as long as they will except from an individual. You should include a copy of your drivers License upon request. Use USPS the box shouldn’t be marked with any manufacturers marking ( don’t ship it in box with Remington marked all over it). Do not ship ammunition with it. This is for an individual if you are an FFL you have to declare it and fill out paperwork at USPS. This is what I have always done unless the rules have changed.

Increasingly, FFLs won't — per their internal policy, for liability or something — accept individual shipments. Finding a local dealer that will do transfers cheap is getting to be an important thing. Know a few I like otherwise but either charge hilarious fees, or just flat refuse to do transfers, either way.

So, across a large state like KS is effectively the same as interstate, might as well plan on it every time.

Also... enough awful people out there, I agree with advice I have seen from others: at least get copy of ID and a bill of sale for anything you do face to face. I know many people who will do all transfers through an FFL to be sure that they do the NCIC and then you know it's not stolen when receiving, a prohibited person when selling and so on. All is above board then.

Lastly, protip if you run a gun store: Do transfers. People will do them anyway and not give you the in-stock business, but in another store. I've been visiting my transfer-friendly store enough I have bought stuff off the shelf because I am there. Whoops, my store for the 30 years before this, missing out.

You do realize that, with the exception of a handful of states, intrastate firearm shipments do not need to go through an FFL, right?

And yes, that includes handguns too.

You can ship a handgun via UPS or Fedex to its new owner, all you're violating is their policy not any laws.

Your not breaking laws by selling to a individual for cash. Only the buyer if indeed a felon is breaking the law. The gov has everyone so brainwashed that they think they are doing something wrong. Does your mattress still have those tags that say do not remove? How long do you sit at a malfunctioning red light?

My state does not require FFL transfers for intrastate sales. Guess what I do when I see Armslist ads for an interesting gun and the seller says "thru FFL only"? I pass right by it. Fuck that guy.

Yes. I thought that was stated clearly enough as:
1) Gun store policy, that is increasingly true.
2) Covering yourself from liability since everyone likes to sue all the time now; e.g. how do you KNOW the receiving party is not a prohibited person without a background check?

Letter of the law and ATF regs have been covered. Just adding details and opinions for those new to this, or who haven't done it for a long time.

I always ship FFL to FFL - my local FFL guy coordinates with the buyers preferred FFL and they make it happen. All legal, proper and above board no matter the individual State. Costs a few $ but I build that into the sale and have never been sorry.

try to get rid some my collection, whats the proper way to sell firearm by shipping in US. do i just ship to a FFL near to the buyer? what else i need to do.
make sure the buyer's ffl will allow shipments directly from you the seller. then yes just ship your firearm to buyer's ffl (their ffl normally requires you to include a pic of your driver's license). you can ship long guns via usps, ups or fedex and handguns via ups or fedex. if you are shipping handguns, it prob is cheaper to go thru your ffl. you pay them a transfer fee but they as FFL's can ship cheap via usps so it ends up cheaper than you going thru ups or fedex.

Also, shipmygun.com is very affordable. It’s basically buds gun shop using their bulk shipping discount and selling it at a bit higher rate.

Still much cheaper than any method I’ve tried. As long as the ffl is on their list. If not, they will attempt to add them upon request.

I won't do an in-state purchase through an FFL. The seller can keep whatever he has. Nothing I ever want is so unique that I can't find it elsewhere on my terms.
