How to true the Kestrel for rimfire?

How can I true my Kestrel for long range rimfire distances? My numbers seem good to about 225, but my reality was a mil less in the 300/400 yard ranges. Just over 500 yds my impacts were 2.5 mils less than the Kestrel. I'm using the MV Temp table and have populated it with MVs at least every 10 degrees...40s, 50s, etc to low 100s. Today I tried to use the DSF Cal function at the 200 yard distance. The numbers moved a bit better, but still off too much. I'm not even sure that the DSF Cal function is applicable to rimfire since the rounds are always subsonic. I'm using Center-X.

Sorry...one more question...if I reload the gun profiles from my tablet using the Kestrel LINK Ballistics app, do I lose the Cal DSF info on the Kestrel? Is there a way to save the Cal DSF info on the tablet?

The DSF data is part of the Gun Profile, you just don't see it in the app, only in the Kestrel. Always copy your gun profile from the Kestrel after Cal DSF to the app so if you download from there later the profile will include the DSF information and not overwrite and delete it in the Kestrel.

OK, I over the weekend I went through the Cal DSF process and made adjustments at several distances. Today I went back out to confirm the drops. There was one distance in the middle that I want to adjust. How do I reset the Cal DSF? Or do I just start the process over from close to far? Is there a way to just tweak the middle range?

WHOA...! I just used Get Profiles in the Link app to save the changes I made on the Kestrel and the data that shows up on my tablet is WAY WAY WAY different than what is on the Kestrel!

I started with an existing profile for CenterX using the Custom Curve on the Kestrel. Made Cal DSF adjustments. When I sent the profile to my Android tablet, the data looks like the profile is for a
.308 bullet, 175 grain, .475 G1, 2600 fps, 109 ZR, 2.75 BH, 1:11.25 twist, and no MV Temp table entries (which I do have).
On the Kestrel it looks like
.224 bullet, 40 grain, 1 for BC, 1075 fps, 25 ZR, 1.96 BH, 1:16 twist, and I can see MV Temp table entries.

Now nothing is making any sense to me. How should I proceed? Do I 'fix' the profile on the tablet and send it to the Kestrel and start over?

Regarding the gun profile upload to Android, erase the profile in the Android device and try uploading again and see if it resolves.

Regarding Cal DSF, you need to do distances from short to long and the Kestrel will keep 6 of them. If you need to redo any, you need to select the shortest distance that needs to be redone and do that and then any others that are longer as a Cal DSF wipes out any longer distances than the one just entered.

I have two profiles that I am attempting to true with DSF. One is for CenterX and the other for SK Yellow. On the Kestrel, I have turned ON only these two profiles.

In my second attempt to 'Get Profiles' onto my Android, the Center X profile seems to have come over fine this time. But instead of seeing the SK Yellow profile, something named 'CurProfile' is now on my tablet with .308 looking data.

I deleted both of the profiles from the Android and tried again. The 'Getting' process seems to take much longer than the 'Sending' process.

Trying for a third time, the CenterX profile came through named correctly...but with .308 data. And the other profile is named 'CurProfile' again with .308 data.

OK. I sent all the profiles from the tablet to the Kestrel. Deleted the app. Reinstalled the app and then got the profiles back on the app from the Kestrel. All seems to be as it should.

I'm going to start the DSF process again fresh this weekend.

With the 'Get' process...does it only send those that are checked in the app? Or does everything on the Kestrel get 'got?' Or perhaps only those profiles that are on? I could not find anything about the 'Get' procedure in the documentation.

Is there a way to list/organize/order the profiles on the app? Or for that matter, on the Kestrel?

I do appreciate all the help!

Glad to hear the new app fixed the issue, must have been a memory issue with the app.

"Get" transfers all apps on the kestrel to the app. if you don't want duplicates, delete off the app first.

There is no organization of the gun profiles, they are listed as you enter them.

Good Luck with the DSF process, just start close and end far. It really helps accuracy on the 22lr.

I've been watching some of the Kestrel set up videos. With rimfire, should I also run the Cal MV? I do test with my Magnetospeed. And I'm using the MV Temp table. Do these procedures step on each other? Of course the idea is that they all help in producing the right solution.

you could do a CAL MV but if you check your suggested range it will be close to 0 distance, so I am not sure how much impact it will have on shots since the 22lr is supersonic for a very short time period (if at all).

If the temp table is set to On the Kestrel will look there for the MV, if Off it will use the value you entered in the profile.
