Does anyone here, have any experience with the Hogue 1500, carbon fiber barrel rifle? It looks to be a good way to get a decent rifle with a CF barrel. I think the rifle weighs about 7 1/2 lbs. I know the Hogue stock, is mediocre, but i can swap stocks for something lighter weight and more rigid. The forum search and the all knowing google have sparse info. Thanks!

I hope someone chimes in, but I doubt we'll see much in Snipers Hide for the current offerings from Howa. Only look like 6.5 and 308 are available.

Not sure who makes the barrels, but they aren't Proof. They have the mesh as opposed to the fiber wrap. They look like Christensen barrels, but at least one forum said they denied it. Christensen has the reputation for walking after multiple shots. I haven't seen it personally. I know my Proof don't.

Absent knowing where the barrels are made, I would be hesitant. But, at around $1000, if I wanted a 6.5cm or 308, I might give it a whirl.

The Savage Proof Ultralights are what I would do right now in factory/budget carbon fiber. A new stock and they should shoot very good.

I think I would go the Howa route over the Savage. The only use I have for a carbon barreled rifle is hunting, and shot strings aren't a thing while hunting. Yeah the Savage has a Proof barrel, but it's a Savage. We know what a Proof Carbon barrel costs, so what's left over is how much gun savage could throw together and still make a profit.

I have seen more than one issue with savage actions, and they're aren't for me. I've never seen an issue with Howa actions.
