Hows does LaRue Stealth barrels rank?

Larue machines very high quality products (mounts, rifles, receivers, BCG's, etc). I've done very well with their barrels. But Mark doesn't say much about what goes into them. I think it's assumed they're button rifled. Some like them, some do not. Also, take some peoples' negative opinions with a grain of salt - Mark has pissed off a LOT of people with some of his antics and they could influence them to poo on his stuff. Just food for thought.

I don't hear much about them here. They are about the same price as a Craddock RTR or WOA. How do they compare though?

I had a stealth barrel and was very pleased with it's accuracy. I didn't find it to be any slower than my other 16" .223s. It shot Vmax and SMKs well.

I sold it and kind of regret it. Don't think I'll buy another though. Too many other good barrels for less now days. I got mine Blackfriday of 17 or 18 when they had a steep discount.

Glad yours worked well. Never had a problem with accuracy but the dozen plus I tested where all slower than other barrels of similar price

I’ve never owned the 5.56 or .308 LaRues, but my 18” Stealth 2.0 Grendel velocities are the same as my other 18” Grendels.

Compared to my 20+ other ARs, the LaRue Stealth 2.0 action is noticeably smoother when you charge it. Very fun carbine to shoot at distance. I’ve been putting my kids on it more lately since it has the brake, which allows them to self-spot easily. They’re still growing, so they get pushed around more than adults would.

That’s good information. I never shot the Gredell versions

Don’t get me wrong I have several of his rifles and like them. It just pisses me off they are so slow and every time I ask Marc why instead of an answer he deletes my comments. Also when he brought out the Bolt Action Rifle asked if he would make a version without an AR Carbine stock. Stating how many of us tried AR Carbine stocks on bolt actions before and it was PIA to get constant cheek weld. Instead of listening he got irritated. Now I see he is finally bringing out a real stock for the bolt rifle In short he only listens to himself Then he makes his 4200.00 rifles lose value when he sells the complete lower for 300.00 and an upper for 1200.00 turning a bunch of us off, so I won’t buy his products anymore if I have reasonable alternative.

I have been using LaRue barrels since Walther made them for him. I have wore out more barrels of different brands than I want to admit to I posted my findings.
The speed up thing happens once in awhile to barrels usually after about 100-200 rds. Then once throat wears it starts going down again. Not exactly a new idea. We saw the speed up on a few of the Team USA barrels back in 2008

I've been using Larue barrels since then as well.

The majority of the 9 or so larue barrels I personally have, in various calibers, haven't been slow, inaccurate, nor have I seen any slow down(yet)....and I can reload all the brass. I only have good personal experience with one or two larue LW barrels. I do think a few of the 260 barrels that are up there in round count are nearing the end of life.

I can relate to another two dozen or more larue barrels that buddies own that are the same. I haven't seen any substantive results that would make me shy away from a larue barrel. I have seen good results that would make larue a very easy and affordable choice.

Is a bartlien more accurate, probably. Does that make a larue inaccurate, nope.

Well if you get down to SWF I can show you in a class or just on the range the difference in velocity between the brands

As to accuracy I have never had a LaRue rifle or barrel that is not very reliable and accurate

It just ticks me off my Noveske, Bartlein and even Savage MSR barrels are a lot faster than my LaRues. I also have a bunch of his barrels and friends the same. With that considered you just can’t put the barrels in same class as the top tier

That being said if the velocity was on par with the other top barrels it’s probably the barrel I would use in all my AR type weapons

So don’t get me wrong. My OBR hybrid is my favorite large frame AR of all time I just work around the lower velocity Hybrid being the original 16” light weight that once I wore out the that barrel I changed to the 18” OBR system
