I recently received a screaming deal on an HS Precision HTR in .308, a rifle I've wanted since my late teens.

When I was re-researching them before my recent purchase, I couldn't find a lot of info and/or reviews on them.

Figured I would throw together a quick little review for anyone who might be interested in an HS Precision.

Note- I am a nobody, don't shoot PRS, make it to the range an average of twice a month and I should probably be better at shooting than I am lol.

First impression out of the box (case) was wow. The fit and finish on my HTR is outstanding. For reference, I have two Sako TRG's and I would say my HTR is as nice or maybe a fuzz nicer than the TRGs. All the machining is clean AF, the fitment in the stock is tight, the magazine fits perfectly square in the stock etc. The action is silky smooth, much like a Sako or Tikka. The safety is a 3-position much like a Winchester model 70, each position was easy to push through while also having positive clicks / lock up. The trigger is a single stage and was measured at 3.3 lbs and it breaks like glass, no over travel, pre creep etc. The stock is quite comfortable and has a ton of adjustment and appears to stay where you want it too once adjusted. The barrel is a 1 in 12 and is what they call a tactical contour .950 at the muzzle, it came pre threaded and included a muzzle break that's blended perfectly to the barrel.

After dialing in the scope, I put a box of 168gr FGMM through it and a box of 155gr Hornady Black through it. For whatever reason it didn't seem to like the Hornady very much. Below is my best 5 shot group of FGMM with one called flyer. I'd imagine in more capable hands, it would shoot one hole all day long.

Overall I am pretty damn stoked on this rig. It ain't the fanciest or newest setup, but its for sure a shooter.

Big thanks to @JC Steel for hooking it up with one of my dream rifles.

yeah i bought one after shooting my BIL's. frankly i didn't care for the stock, especially the cheek piece, so i ended up buying a MPA chassis for it and have been pretty happy with it at the couple of PRS matches a year i do. in the processing of switching to the chassis, i contacted HS customer service regarding bottom metal, mags, etc and they were SUPER helpful and responsive.

I think one of the things I like most about the bottom metal is how the mags are anti-rattle. They have those spring tensioners on the bottom that make sure it gets seated and won't make noise while stalking or moving during a hunt (I use my rifle for hunting as well). In the overall scheme, nothing HS precision is cheap, but it ends up being cheaper than a lot of other competitors while still be feature rich. I have the short forearm version of the m24 stock which I think is more aesthetically pleasing with my 20" barrel.

Have put many rounds through HTRs, my old left hand LE rifle is a Gen 1.

Eventually I put Gen 2 bottom metal on because it became difficult to find Gen 1 magazines.

Should do good with 168 FGMM, and maybe as well with the 175 FGMM.

If you need bonded bullet rounds, you might need to try a few and fine one that works best in your rifle. I used Nosler 180 Accubonds, but have not tried their 168 grain bonded loads.

HS built/sold plenty of HTRs for LE use, and they work OK.

Eventually, the cheekrest adjustment will probably loosen a lot.

No doubt the extreme adjustability of the HTR stock is a good feature if more than one person will have to use the same rifle.

Did not like the HTRs with that damn Rem 700 J lock actions that require a special key for ISS, but that can be fixed. You can replace the 5 parts associated with the ISS, or go to an aftermarket firing assembly like David Tubbs Speedlock (or others).

HS barrels are usually good shooters, some are very good.

Get out and use it.
