HSM Ammo

Not sure exactly what you're looking for but I have pretty much relied on their ammo for predator hunting for many years. It's always been reliable and accurate.

I had SDs in the 25-40 range, putting it not bad for closer range but hard to use effectively at distance. This was with their .260 in 142gr SMK I used for some close range matches, and .308 M118LR clone ammo which my SCAR ate up.

For the money, I was not impressed.

Not rifle ammo, but they have been a fantastic supplier of pistol ammunition. Both .44 Spl and
.45 Colt. Starline brass and hard cast bullets. Very reasonable way to generate excellent empty brass.

I shot enough of their .308 match loads to trade in 50 pounds of brass. Their .308 168 and 178 Amax loads were extremely accurate, I also shot the 338 lapua 300 gr Sierra loading and 50 bmg 750 Amax and loved both of them. I used the 308 loads for duty / training use for almost 20 years and never got a bad batch.

I bought a couple boxes of 308 w/ Berger 175 gr pills. I ran it through a bolt gun & it fed well, no problems. The truth be told, I never shot that ammo past 200 M. I've shot some good groups w/ it but I've never worse than 1 MOA w/ this ammo. To me, that makes it worth buying again.

I have gone through about 200 rounds of their 308win 175gr ammo. Seems to shoot out of my rifle slightly better than FGMM. I have also shot their 308win 185vld and 210vld hunting ammo. The only issue I had was with the 185vlds. Not an expert on terms but would call it heavy bolt lift. The neck of the brass did not look even like it wasn't trimmed. Never got around to taking pictures and emailing them. However I have heard when people do have issues HSM is good on their customer service.

I agree on customer service, at least in terms of responsiveness to questions. I'm going to try a case of their 300 WinMag 208 AMax. While I prefer to handload, I like to have good factory ammo available as a backup. Factory 300 Win with ELR capable bullets is scarce, and HSM is one of the only places I can find it. They sound like they know what they're doing, so I'm going to stock up for the aeason.

Thanks, Dylan - what made the 30-06 "not good"...just accuracy? Also, anyone used any of the 300 WinMag loads, esp 208 AMaxes?

Sorry for being so general. What I experienced was subpar accuracy and sticky case ejection- I don't recall what the velocity was, but it didn't seem like it was running hot based on other hunting loads I was testing. I had just had LRI accurize and rebarrel an R700, so the chamber is solid.

I will also point out that I had two boxes of it that were purchased about 3 years ago. Perhaps there was something off with that lot or period of time, but given the expense and issues, I haven't seen a reason to go back to that load.

Their .30-06 178 AMAX load is amazingly accurate, I shot a 6 shot group at 1000 yards that was just over 1/2 moa. It took about 32 moa to get theready, it's a stout load.
