Anyone ever deal with John Huber's adjustable two-stage triggers in a Mauser. A couple years ago I was so frustrated trying to get his dual ball bearing adjustable two-stage in my M48 I had to send the barreled action to him to dial in. It's not bad but not amazing. Like my M48, I cloned my 24/47 into Yugo civil war era sniper. I’d like to have a nice modern two-stage adjustable (or not) feel with hopefully a 1-2lb free and easy first stage meeting a 3ish lb break over The Wall. I’d rather not go Timney, as I understand, will require dramatic modification of the stocks.
I'd like to do the same with my mint-barrel Persian 98/29 but am wary of any stock mod as that's far more valuable/rare than M48s or 24/47s. Gunsmiths and precision shooter (especially Fudd sporters guys) have been tweaking, building, modifying Mauser actions for decades. I spoke at length with John a couple years ago and, while no doubt a brilliant man, went off on all kinds of tangents that I just could not follow i.e. psychology of the “break” and timing theory about meeting and crossing “the wall”. One of those guys that’s possibly on “the Spectrum” (whatever that mean nowadays). I just couldn’t follow. The million-times photocopied notes and hand-drawings that he includes with his trigger are just too cryptic for me to make sense of.
While I can field strip pretty much any rifle I own I am admittedly a bit ignorant and am not competent to make do-it-yourself modifications. I am not up to filing, grinding, etc, an would rather bring o send the rifle to someone who can. I finally wrote this note (below) to him and look forward to how he responds.
John, I put your 2-stage in my 24/47. Unlike the M48 a couple years ago I will need to relive the stock a little it. Not prepared to commit to that just yet.
The initial 1st stage travel weight to the wall is around 4 lb and at the break is around 6lb. Worse than the original stock trigger.
How to lighten up initial pull?
Any thoughts or ideas on how to get a match/precision style trigger (if not this one) in a milsurp rifle w/o mods?
(BTW, on an unrelated note, Josh Smiths adjustable 2-stage triggers for 91/30 are amazing and simple to install tweak. A REAL plus for any PU Sniper shooters).

- Is it a matter of snipping off small bits of the trigger’s sear spring to lighten?
- Are there lighter versions out there commercially? I checked Wolff www.gunsprings.com and they don’t appear to sell anything
- Sometimes when I half-pull the trigger and release it just dangles as loose.
- I’ve twisted and played with the bearing screws several times in many directions and just can’t really achieve anything meaningful other than fire/no-fire.
