I'm building out a Bighorn Origin build in 6.5 PRC. I'm debating between going with a Proof Carbon Fiber Sendero ($820) or Preferred Barrels Pre Fit ($390).

Looking to keep the rifle at or below 6.5lbs.

They listed out the following contours (some list the weight of the barrel);

Would a #1 or #2 contour be too thin and sacrifice accuracy?

If that chart is correct, their contours are pretty beefy. Their #2 is like many other #3's and their #2 is about like a Brux or Lilja or Rock #3. Heck even their #1 is almost a #3 from say Brux or Mullerworks. If your trying to keep it pretty lightweight and not overly muzzle heavy I'd go no more than their #2 which still goes 0.670?? I have a couple lighter weight 7MM-08 builds with Bartlein 2b contours that are about 0.66" @ 22.5" finished length and balance is good IMHO.

I’d be leaning towards a Proof CF Sendero Light for a Hunting build. Their Sendero Light is basically a Rem Sendero Contour as I recall and the Proof Sendero Contour is closer to an M24 Contour. Per the diagram below, the CF Sendero Light (Rem Var Contour) weights in at 3.2lbs, same as the #1 Sporter Contour You posted above.

I am running a Bartlein 3b fluted at 24”. It shoots great but if I do it again I will drop at least one contour smaller.

3 or 2B? That would be Preferred Barrels #2 or #1 contour. It seems like that is the route I will go based on everyone's answers. The Proof barrel would be nice since it would be roughly the same weight and a thicker contour but at more than twice the price I don't think it is worth it. Especially for a rifle that shouldn't see more than 3 or 4 rounds at the very most at any given time.

If you want to make your weight, I'd go no more than 2b which still might be tough depending on the stock you use. I have a model 700/2b/McMillan Edge stock build .243 that is also fluted and I'm at 6 lbs 5 ozs for the rifle only and thats with a ADL bottom metal.

Going with a Preferred Barrels #2 puts me at 6.66lbs for my build which is perfect.

The 6.5CM I used this year has a 26” light palma contour Rock Creek barrel from PVA. It wasn’t too heavy for me, but with that said, I’m probably going to chop it down to 22” (maybe even 20”) just to make it a little less cumbersome.
