My little bro is headed to the town of Boligee, Al for a hunt next week. Looks like deer is on the menu as well as pigs, and varmints. He sure could use some tips, advice, etc. from you guys in AL. Thanks.

Re: Hunting in Alabama....need info..

Alabama rut usually starts the second week of January. Boligee is in the black belt region of the state which usually produces the better deer. Don't expect deer to be the same size as Iowa or Illinois. 180 lbs and 135 inch deer is pretty good and 200lbs 155 inches is very good.

It is pretty warm here right now but it could change quickly. Tell him to pack for all weather conditions. In Alabama you can freeze one day and swat mosquitoes two days later.

I see more deer in the afternoon but it might be because I don't like waking up early enough to hunt the travel routes to and from bedding areas.

I really think it will be about right for the rut when he is here. I am seeing signs of the rut now. Saw a really big scrape last week and bucks moving in the middle of the day. It could be a good week.
As stated above, he should make prep for the ever changing temps here. Afternoon from around 4PM to last light is best in my area. Best chances will be over green fields during that time. Otherwise, hunt their travel lanes.
