Im leaving out Nov 16 to hunt deer a week in sullivan county Missouri. Ive never been out of sc hunting before and was wondering if anyone on here has ever hunted up in that neck of the woods. Just kinda wondering what to expect i guess

Re: Hunting in Sullivan Missouri

I've never hunted Sullivan County but I hunt some in Mercer which is the county north and west of there. Most of the area I hunt is CRP and grain fields with ditchs full of scrub and trees which the deer use as travel routes and bedding areas. Not really sure what your looking for. If you know the area you're going to be hunting or at least directions too it I'd pull it up on google earth and kind of look it over. May give you some ideas.

It may still be a little warm. Rut is sort of unpredictable but the bucks will be chassing the does. Hunt the pinch points and oak flats.

The rut is kicking in right now. Hopefully the deer won't be locked down when the season opens. They're calling for a slight chance of rain Wednesday and Thursday, which hopefully will cool it down some.

I agree. I haven't hunted there specifically but have hunted some areas not to far away. If you can find a spot where the woods go from being rather vast to where there is only 100 yards of woods between two fields, look for trails in that 100 yards. The deer get kind of funneled in to you.
Good luck

A little further south than Sullivan, but my buddy just shot this buck last week. Him and several other Wounded Warriors were brought on an all-expense paid hunting trip, plus a bit of a shopping spree at Cabelas. Good to see these guys getting taken care of. Good luck with the hunt, I'm driving home and hunting a bit NW, in Macon Co. Happy huntin' everybody.
