I hunted with mine last weekend, actually. It's definitely not ideal for carrying through deep snow and deadfall, but I think it could have a place in some settings... like on top of your tripod.

2018 - 19 lb. Desert Tech SRS A1 / Vortex Razor / Pictures from 10,000 ft. DA / No elk that year
2019 - Custom R700 / 17.5 Pounds / No Elk / Pictures not included
2020 - 18.5 lb. GA Precision Crusader / Vortex Razor / / Hiked to 10,000 ft. DA several times / 5x5 Elk at 150 yards
2021 - 18.0 lb. Desert Tech SRS A2 w/ 32 inch Straight Contour 300 Norma Barrel!!! / Hiked to 9,000 ft. DA several times / 3x4 Elk at 750 yards

It SUCKS to carry that much weight. Everyone said I was an idiot. I agree with them. Was it cool? Hell yeah. Will I keep doing it? Probably.
Live in Virginia - toting heavy "PRS" style rifles to the edge of a field or into the woods for whitetail deer in nothing compared to Colorado.

I just had a custom carbon rifle made but it still comes in at 14 lbs. fully loaded which feels solid to me and I will take it to Colorado next year (skipping this year).

I am using a Eberlestock Team Elk Pack in the pictures and don't have any complaints.

Im doing it some this year. Had TS Customs spin a 6 dasher for comps.

Had the factory 6.5cm cut down to 18” to shed a little weight for hunting. Shoots 130 berger ar hybrid 2700f/s into sub 1/2 moa @ 100yds

Obviously take all the internal and external weights off

Don’t hunt with an AT-X but I do hunt with an AT. 18” proof carbon barrel and lightweight mod helps.

I can recommend the tab gear biathlon sling makes carrying a doddle.

I know a lot of people like 6.5 cm but if you take a155 Berger 308 and push it to 2750 you have very close to the same ballistics as a 6.5 out to 600 yards. Just another choice.

I hunt with mine. 18” 308 barrel and no weights or anything. It’s definitely not a mountain rifle but a couple miles isn’t that bad. I use a MR 3DAP and it’s not quick to get out but it rides well.

Not AT-X but I hunt with my AX in 308. I have taken, Whitetail, Mule Deer, Moose and Elk with it. I use a Eberlestock Phantom if walking any distance. I lugged around a lot heavier shit and further in the Army than I ever did hunting so for me it's not a big deal anyway.
