Most of the projected tracks have it right over us to rather close here, and they're talking about 10 to 12" of water in less than three days with high winds, etc., etc.

Is anybody else gonna join the scavenging hordes and buy every loaf of Wonder Bread on the shelves?

I have a case of a good IPA, a generator, piles of beef short-ribs, a 3500 Dodge w. a 9 foot V-plow and about 200K rounds of small arms ammo. Bring on the storm!

Though we at the PD are on alert for 'all hands on deck' next few days for traffic and for supporting power crews. That will completely cut into the IPA consumption... but duty is duty.

Actually, think this one is for real. I was in NC for 1991 'Perfect Storm' so missed it. And it was a bit too far S. and E. of my hometown to matter. But this one looks like it could be interesting.

Best of luck in the weather. Most hurricanes that get past Fla on the east coast generally love to hit NC. I can't even remember how many landfalls I have had to batten things down for over the years.

Looks like the cold front is moving north pretty quickly, and Sandy is lagging along the coast. Hopefull they'll miss each other and we'll all just get some rain.

It's uncanny how this storm is gonna chug along in open water and at just the right time it's gonna take a hard left turn and dive into the coast. Jersey's nothing more than a glorified sand bar. This thing is taking aim at Philly (if the computer models have it right).

We got 13" of rain when Floyd hit and I remember how the wind howled all night. This one has potential to make Floyd take a back seat.

I work at the river's edge (navy yard) and I expect I will not report for work tomorrow or tuesday. That place will be under water. Should be emergency personnel only.

Kind of ironic don't you think? It's usually the other way around or rather, the island is under a Hurricane and flights are delayed or cancelled to or from the D.R.!

We got a few of the outer bands on Wednesday with some heavy rain but nice to cool it down some. Found out flights canceled before we left resort so got the same room for a couple more nights. Had some Santa libres at the pool this afternoon to relax from the morning stress. Hopefully flights go out on Tuesday.

We had to do a few errands today. Lori & I paid our respects at my parents' graves as it was on the way. As we headed north on Rte. 1, passing us on the Southbound side were many caravans of trucks from JBL Electric with pole carriers, bucket trucks & crew cabs were full of men. I just got a call from one of the men I ride with. John is heading from Harrisburg Pa. to Upper Bucks County Pa. He said there were a ton of caravans of utility workers from the West & South.

So far all is calm. Work & school is canceled for tomorrow & Tuesday.

As I was heading home to the Baltimore Maryland area from a West Virginia shoot yesterday, there must've been 50+ utility trucks convoying down state. Looks like the they're taking this as serious as they need to. We had a few bad storms come through in July that took out power for a week or two down in VA just south of us. Expect much of the same and then some with how big this thing is looking to be.

The projected path has us on or near the bullseye. Our location is right near the center od the Syracuse, Rochester, Elmira triangle, about 12 miles North and West of Watkins Glen.

We have secured all the moveable outdoor stuff into the garage. I have filled Cat Litter jugs with water for flushing, but out local water supply also has standby generators. We live with a small but adequate margin of stuff we can eat from the package, and our cellphones and Kindles are charged. If the power goes, so does the heat, so we've gotten out warm clothes and remade the bed with the comforter.

Worse comes to worst, the shotguns are accessible, along with buck and slug. The car is gassed and the mower can is full.

Odds do not favor flooding here, we're not on low ground; but it's nice to know we have a new roof. Contractors are due to start the new vinyl siding in a week.

Our family is close and safe. We expect heavy rain, local rivers and lakes could get 3-6ft of rise, and winds of 35mph with gusts to 50. Our local schools are still open today.

AC is getting pummeled. Significant sections of the Boardwalk have either fallen into the surf or have been lifted up and over the railings at the ends of the streets that run perpendicular to the shoreline. Wildwood's streets are flooded, and about 35,000 people in South Jersey are without power at last count.

It's hard to believe that the real fun and games don't start for at least another ten hours.

I'm 20 miles in land from from the ocean (directly due east from the Indian River Inlet) in Sussex county Delaware. 5" of rain already,reporters in Ocean City Md (24 miles from me) can hardly stand and we have 12 more hours until this sucker comes ashore.
My wife is a public health nurse and was scheduled to man a shelter from 6:00 pm tonight till 6:00 am tomorrow. She got a call an hour ago, travel has been deemed so dangerous that she has been told to stay home and that the nurses already there are there for the duration.
I live in the woods, mostly mature pine. I don't know how these trees can withstand 90 mph sustained wind after getting a foot of rain. As bad as it is I fear the destruction in the mountains of north central Pa (hunting property) and New York. I was there for Agnes in '72. The water has nowhere to go. The destruction along the Allegheny and both branches of the Susquhanna was monumental then. This is not good.

Depending which side of the storm you are on if there are the usual small tornadoes that accompany these storms and spin up out of nowhere. They are small but in a storm that widely encompassing there might be plenty. Those mature pines will snap off like toothpicks. Be very careful if they are within falling distance of your house.

Pay attention to which way the wind is coming from with regards to your house. Watch those trees. I've found that once sustained winds get over 100 pines start snapping.

Good Luck guys and don't let your guard down. You guys aren't used to this so don't take anything for granted.

We got drinkin' water, flushin' water, extra TP and baby wipes, canned goods, a full freezer, extra propane, candles, a pissed-off Cane Corso bitch (she hates rain-poopin') and enough ORM-D goodness for a long while should it come to that. I wish we had more batteries, but are there ever enough?

And you're right, Dag ... our hurricanes almost always come through with a glancing blow ... NJ hasn't seen a landfall in over a 100 years. By the way, they upped the estimate of sustained high winds later to around 100 mph. Right now we're gusting at 40 mph, 30 miles on the other side of Philly, on the descending side of the storm, which is coming counter-clockwise and still hundreds of miles off-shore. No clue what's gonna happen in the middle of the night when the worst of it gets here.

I'm not too far from you Greg Langelius, just over in the Utica area.

On a hill so I am not worried, but my basement has flooded with Irene and a microburst that hit us at the tail end of winter a few years ago. So I made sure that the sump was good to go.

Heat with coal (no power needed there), live alone, so I have heat and food for me. I deliver in my private vehicles, so they are topped off plus a few extra cans.

Premix and bar oil on hand.

Other than power to the water pump and showering, I am pretty much set. Boringly so, I doubt I will even need to break out the camping gear for warmth or cooking.

Of course it is. I make it round, just as my father did, and 33 years of college students have fallen in love with it. But when I was learning to make pizza fast, the pizza peel was old and worn and I had to stretch the corners, making it come out a touch square.

If I was having a bad day, that happened more than I liked, so people would ask me how square the pizza was today.... when I created this online identity, the day was rough so I called myself squarepizza... thus saying bad day in my own way.

Dorky, I know.

But trust me, my pizza is very much round, and thin, and very yummy.
