Suppressors i am looking into getting a 9mm for a suppressor

this isn't a "which 9 should i get". i am looking for the different models that are specific to suppressors. i figured i would take a poll from the collective minds out there.

what are my options? there are a ton out there.

What is the host weapon going to be? Handgun like a Glock, Beretta, machine gun like a M11 or Uzi, or rifle like a MP5 or AR chambered in 9mm?

Is there a price range you want to stay in?

Are you looking for user serviceable?

The more info you provide the easier it is for somebody to recommend the right can for your needs.

sorry, but what models of 9mm should i be looking at for a can, not the actual can it self. the dealer that i go to has a YHM, but he said he can get ACC's too. i want to pick the weapon first, than decide on a can.

when i looked at the web sites of sig yesterday, there was 3 or 4. hk had 2 or 3. i am sure glock has a few, and same with smith and wesson.

price range i am looking at $800ish for the gun.

high capacity mags.

mags that will work on differnt models of the same family of gun.

I am going to run a glock 17. As soon as my form 4 get back this year. Hopefully this year. From what I understand. Drop a lone wolf threaded barrel in and shoot. Well within 800 budget. Hope this helps.

I've been running a couple different Glock 17s with my SWR Trident9 and Lone Wolf barrel for over 4 years. I've had the opportunity to run the same can on HK and Sigs but still prefer the Glock 17 platform as a suppressor host. To my ear it's a tad more quiet.

I have a registered receiver M16 that I run a 5.5" 9mm 3-lug barrel on with the Trident9 as well. It's a hoot to shoot but for pure suppression and "Wow" factor from people hearing a suppressed centerfire for the first time it's tough to beat the Glock with subsonic 147 grain FMJs.

An added benefit, the Glock 17 is probably the cheapest route to go.

i am a huge fan of the XDm's, but they don't offer a threaded barrel.

i took a look at a sig scorpion yesterday. nice weapon. i didn't care for the HK very much.

I have several host weapons in 9mm. The Sig 226, p6, and 250. All run great with the p6 giving a bit more pop for whatever reason. I also run the same can on a G17. No complaints there either. I can change the piston and run the same can on my RRA AR.

Check storm lake barrels, Here. A friend of mine runs the compact xdm with an osprey and loves it.

that was going to be my next question, if anyone knew of a place that i could get a threaded barrel for an XDm.

when you go to the gun shop, and start asking out of the ordinary questions, other than, "what's the cheapest, highest capacity i can get", the shop people don't really know too much, or they don't want to be bothered with questions, because they just want a quick sell.

Smith and wesson makes an M&P9 that comes from the factory with two barrels, one of which is threaded. These usually go for a little over $500 if you can find one. Very nice.

That sounds like a good value- barrels are typically at least $125.

i didn't like the M&P or the glock.

i just ordered the XDm 3.8 compact, with the advice of the barrel from Doogie. i will get the barrel later. if everything goes right in 2-3 weeks, i will have the funds for a suppressor for the handgun and my rifle, and file the paper work for both at the same time.

Just make sure you are getting a can with a Nielsen/Blowback device. Otherwise they don't seem to run as well in a browning type pistol action.

Also if you are going to go with multiple suppressors (assuming you haven't already), I would seriously consider doing an NFA trust. Makes the paper work a lot easier and some claim the paperwork is done faster too.

what is the blow back device you are talking about?

i plan on doing a trust so i can put my wife and son on it.

Second to last post Rolling thunder explains it much better than I ever could, but from my understanding is if your barrel goes out of a locked position when cycling (i.e. browning type action) then they have a harder time cycling with a suppressor on. So some use a blowback type device that allows them to cycle better.

I've never run without a blowback device so someone may come along and call BS on me and could very well be right. This was just what I learned from those that "know."

Yep he runs a silencerco's osprey which has one.
