Re: I bought this lathe.......Clausing Colchester 2500
Fritzcat and Scout67,
Thank you for the time and energy on your search. I think I have a decent solution right now that I'm pursuing. I also came up with the same results, $350 for 1 tool holder.......
I removed the shaft in the compound and found out its a metric thread. Its 12mm x ????? I dont have a metric pitch gauge. I also bought a pretty decent Aloris style tool post. Its nice and tight and seems to be halfway well made. It will work for now, I plan on replacing it down the road with an actual Aloris or Dorian system. As of right now I need to find somebody local to make me a shaft that has the correct metric thread and jumps up from 12mm to 5/8's and then has a standard thread. This shaft will screw into the compound and secure my tool post with its 5/8's inside dia. and then provide enough thread exposure to use the top locking nut. Right now I'm just using a metric bolt to secure the tool post to the compound, there is about .2" play betweeen the bolt and the inside dia of the tool post. Not ideal, just temporary until I can get a new shaft made. My lathe did not come with any metric gearing...
Anyway, here are a few pictures of the shop as of now. I added a really nice work bench, plus a few little items.
Dealing with zoning and sending my FFL Type 7 application off is the next thing. This building does not have its own address, and our zoning does not want to grant it one unless its a residence. I just might have to move in...haha
You can see in this picture the metric bolt that secures my tool post......for the moment.
Here is the Spider I made with my Hardinge Diving head that came with the lathe. I also picked up 2 Hardinge 5C collet chucks, and another Hardinge 4V Collet dividing head. I paid an extra $100 for them!!!
