Rifle Scopes I finally bought a scope for my build, SS 10x HD

Well after way too much research and analyzing, I finally pulled the trigger.

I'm building a .243 win on a savage action and was looking for a "tacticool" scope that I would primarily use to learn on. My wants consisted on a tough scope that had good glass, was mil/mil, and had repeatablilty that would not break the bank.

A good buddy of mine had a Leupy Mk4 M3 that was brand new that he offered my a good price on. I wasn't sold because of the bdc turrets and moa/mil setup so I passed.

After reading LL's review on the SWFA SS 10 HD I thought that it was a solid contender so I looked into it some more. It seemed to have everything that I wanted and with the great price that I got it for I'm really excited. I'm told that it should be here in 4-5 days so I guess this is my early Christmas present to myself.

I'll post pics if anyone wants to see them and I'll try to get a meaningful review up once my build is done but It'll be a while.

Guess this post was just to share my excitement.

Thinking of a .243 build with the same scope. Let's hear how you made decisions for the rifle and what made you decide to do what you did. Stock, barrel....etc. Thanks and good luck.

As far as the rifle goes I was looking into a savage action for a couple of reasons.

First I really liked the idea that down the road I can switch barrels at home. Secondly, I wanted something that I did not need to send out to a smith to be trued and timed. (And before anyone gets all up in arms, I'm not implying that a 700 action needs to be T&T'd to shoot well, I just thought that if I were to be going with a custom barrel, and high-end stock that why not go the full monte.)So with the savage action being cheaper to start with, and not needed to be timed and trued, It was a no brainer to me.

After knowing what action I wanted I was still up in the air about caliber selection. It was going to be a .308 or a .260. Both short action and pretty well known to the tactical/long range shooting community. The .243 wasn't even on my radar.

Then while looking over another forum I saw a savage long action that had been timed and trued, had a aftermarket recoil lug and tacticool bolt handle added that had already been fitted with a douglas premium grade SS barrel in .243 win for a REALLY good price. That is what decided the caliber and barrel choice.

Having no knowledge of the .243 I researched as quickly as I could and honestly what put me over the edge was this article. Less recoil, better ballistics, cheaper to reload....I was sold so I ended up scooping the action up.

Once I get the scope I believe that I'm going to order to McMillian A5 adjustable and have it installed and bedded with a CDI precision DBM. Hopefully she will be all done buy summer depending on my finances.
