I hate gun shows.....K98 target rifle build

So while at our last guns how I happened upon a box full of K98 receivers. 25 bucks and I couldn't say no. Found one with the stud and holes drilled for K98 sniper mounts but figured out later it wasn't in the correct spectrum. It is however a German k98. So begins another project. Looking for a build something along the lines of my TKIV-85 build a couple years ago. Wood target stock, milled out for aluminum chassis, Heavy target barrel in some caliber....6.5x55 would be cool and of course a full blueprint on the action and truing. I guess I know what I'll be doing this winter. I do have a short k-98 original scope mount to part with if anyone needs one. It's rough but would work well.

I'm thinking a Parker hale replica is in order. The stocks seem a little easier to come by for a reasonable price.

Yeah the two receivers I picked out both had bolts in them but they were junk. Gunked into a solid heap, might be able to use the bodies but the rest was tossed. None were matching. Just shoved in a reciever. That guy is most likely down in billings next week. He had about ten when I was there. Apparently his dad was an older gunsmith and collected a bunch of them to use for builds and never did. He actually cut me a deal. Two and the transfer for 50.00 I couldn't say no if I tried.

Love building off those K98s. The only thing I wish I had looked at better was whether the aftermarket base that had been put on was straight...it's not. But USO windage adjustable rings fixed that issue for me. Probably won't ever sell it with that issue, but oh well, just makes me actually keep one of my guns for once!

I have the factory stock and bottom metal if you're interested.

Once upon a time in Europe I had a chance to play with various Mauser based sniper rifles and The Parker hale was immediately my favorite. Talk a bout a rifle that just "felt" good. Not to mention the one that I played with was a fucking tack driver.

Why not just get Bartlein/Krieger/Brux/etc to make you a nice brand new chrome moly tube? Could stay with the awesome blued, or park'd, etc old school look while having the most accurate barrel out there.. plus CM barrels are cheaper than the SS and according to Mr Frank @ Bartlein, dont give up anything in the accuracy dept..

The comment wasn't for an original Mauser barrel, there are no original Mauser heavy barrels.......except those that were rebarreled as target rifles and I would LOVE to have one of those. I just posting up there that if anyone had a heavy barrel for a Mauser (any manufacturer) made up that they weren't going to use to contact me. This is a way back burner project so if I'm not able to find a short chambered or whatever barrel in my time frame I WILL order one.
