I've borrowed a good borescope and used it last night to look down the barrel of my new-to-me 700VS in .308 with stock factory barrel. The gun is used, but maybe never fired.
I ran a wet patch down it, then two dry. The second came out absolutely clean. Did it again, same result. Then I looked with the scope, and I saw all kinds of stuff in the grooves. Never having looked through a borescope before, I can't evaluate what I'm seeing, meaning I can't tell if the junk is on the surface of the barrel or imperfections in the barrel.
I cleaned it again, this time taking a few swipes with a brush and then using Sweets. I never saw any traces of copper fouling, and the clean up patches again came through absolutely clean.
I checked again with the scope, and the barrel appeared to be unchanged. What the heck am I seeing in there?
