I just picked up an Armalite Super SASS from auction and want to know what you would do.

I'd been keeping an eye out for a rifle that I can shoot suppressed, and this one came up for sale and I won the auction. The description is below.

"This auction is for an ORIGINAL ARMALITE SUPER SASS AR-10 RIFLE. This is NOT one of the new ones being produced. This item is chambered in 7.62mm NATO/308 Winchester. This one was purchased Originally by me some years ago from our distributors. I installed the TROY RAIL and MAGPUL PRS Stock, no longer available. This has the heavy stainless steel barrel and original competition trigger."

I just picked it up and noticed it does NOT have the adjustable gas block. There's no mention of the owner changing it, or any photo's that would show it. I was under the impression that the adjustable gas block was one of the defining features of the SASS. This seems like a pretty big thing that should have been disclosed. Would you send it back, or ask for a discount? What am I looking at cost wise to get it back to original configuration?

I assume we are talking about the Armalite Super SASS, and not the DPMS SASS...

I'm not sure what I would do. The Armalite Adj. GB would be a big feature for me.
However.. the photo does not show the rather large Adj. GB used by Armalite on the "Gen I" SASS. (Era 2010'ish )

That Armalite Adj. GB is huge.
I think I would ask the seller if they still have those parts at the very least. ( If they even came on that model you bought )

)
I see a Gen II that uses DPMS pattern mags, and that does not have that large Adj. GB.
I can't keep track of the various "Models" Armalite produced , and what stocks / mags were used.

It appears you probably have a Armalite Super SASS... but it is a Gen II'ish ?... or a transitional model based on the PRS stock in your photo.
What markings are on the barrel ?
Can you post a photo of the lowers markings ?

FWIW... Sadly... Armalite brand parts "seem" to be getting harder to find / buy.
I can't tell for sure if this part would fit your SASS ( in particular dependent on your gas journal diameter ) ... https://everygunpart.com/oem/armali...lator-assy-armalite-parts-de8h1g-9y7i-00.html
And I did not see the Gen I Handguard for use with that huge GB.... and from what I can tell, the handguard can be very hard to find.

However... Armalite did sell a kit...https://www.facebook.com/thearmalit...t-includes-rifle-leng/10154199519137586/?_rdr

FWIW.. this manual might be helpful... https://armalite.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/AR-10A-AR-10B-SUPERSASS.pdf

That gas system was really cool because they made a flange on the gas tube like a break line.

There’s a nut that slips over the gas tube from the rear, which then threads onto the male threads and spigot on the back of the gas block. Seals the gas from any chances of escaping between the block and the tube, which helps maintain consistent gas pressure suppressed and unsuppressed.

Very slick system. The gas regulator also has mechanical advantage to being able to turn it with your hand or a cartridge base if you look closely at it.

I guess being a novice to AR's, I assumed the hand guard might have just been covering up adjustable block.

It's definitely an AR-10A that takes the SR25 magazines, and has the eagle stamp. Another weird thing I noticed is that it has a 1:10 Stainless barrel, where the rest of the SASS rifles I've found online all have black barrels.

I will say it is overall very tight, and very clean with clearly little use. The trigger is also phenomenal. I guess at this point I'll just chalk it up as a learning lesson and start looking for a low profile adjustable block that I can set to be used Suppressed.

I’d send it back.

If you want an A series Armalite, PSA is selling them dirt cheap.
You ar correct . I picked up a 6.5 creedmoor 22 inch barrel tactical model . What makes it tactical I have no clue but this thing shoot's pretty good for a 1299.00 rifle .I have shot 2 dmr types matches and I am satisfied with my result's the rifle has run with out any issue .

The 18” 308 I bought is a good shooter as well.

Well hell. Just got an email back from Armalite and they confirmed it left their factory as a A10TBNF, See Rifle Here, which means it was never SASS related.

Now I have to figure out how to proceed with the seller who misrepresented it. Luckily it was a FFL with a lot of sales on the auction site so maybe there's hope we can come to some sort of an agreement.

Yeah, yours is the AR10T A model which I thought they stopped making, no other had the SS barrels AFAIK. I had a T also that Armalite converted to the SASS with the gas block, rail like yours and threaded barrel. So it looks like yours was converted also minus the gas block.
