I knew that Teslong bore scope would be an issue.

Like a lot of us on here probably did, I picked up the $49 teslong bore scope off amazon last week. Got it hooked up to my computer and started looking at all my rifles. It’s really interesting to actually get a clear picture of what’s going inside each barrel.

My initial inspection raised a couple questions for me:

    1) how soon does firecracking begin on a barrel? My 308 with over 1,000 doesn’t show any whatsoever, just carbon buildup in the neck area. My 6.5-284 with 100 rounds on it has it, along with most of my other rifles even with under 300 rounds on them. Not scared of it; just curious.

    2) is there a reason some rifling seems to have a very abrupt start to it and others seem very gradual? Almost worn looking. I got a 6mm creed with 150 rounds down the pipe off another member on here and it has the typical long freebore but then really smooth lands and grooves unlike some of my other rifles.

It’s unreal. I’m not sure what one my friend had before this at his shop but after seeing the results posted on the thread in here and seeing mine, he picked up one as well.

It made me paranoid haha. I’m going to have to just ignore it and go back to shooting!
Exactly. Worry about what it does not what it looks like. I mean these things contain explosions, they are bound to look jacked up. If accuracy is an issue then maybe you can look but if it shoots. I’ll go with don’t ask don’t tell.

Lol it is a point of information to be used with all the other info gathered concerning accuracy, group size, etc. Here is a screen shot of my 6mm Creedmoor chamber after 600 rds of NRL and PRS matches

    I bought one.

I was kinda surprised how decent my current 260 barrel looked to be honest.

I bought it more to see what my old barrel looked like, to observe fouling and see carbon rings if they form.

I try to be realistic as I’ve seen plenty of barrel pics with visual issues yet people said they shoot fine.

Well... I just read through the other thread on here about this thing. The images I've seen show me it's worth the $50 just to keep an eye on my throats/carbon rings.

Pretty typical to see the cracking early on. Like you’ve already figured out, kind of a rabbit hole. I’m waiting for the IOS version to come out, but use a Hawkeye to inspect my chamber jobs now. I can’t take pics with it though, so its hard to show customers. I have a feeling these low priced bore scopes are gonna show people a lot of screwy things in their bores and chambers, and probably sell quite a few custom barrels.

If someone sells a good shooting barrel just because a camera sees something a bit screwy or lets a pic decide whether to shoot a barrel or not because of a pic they’re an idiot and deserves to be gang raped by kangaroos.

Agreed, but you know how neurotic people are about stuff. Once they get a look inside and see some nastyness, it’s over. Just one more thing to blame their flyers on.

With that in mind, I might just put a wanted ad up for “Teslong discarded barrels” haha

    Lol
    Probably a good idea.

“I bought this well known custom barrel from a well known smith but my teslong showed an issue and when I showed them the pics and they laughed at me and said it doesn’t matter and that inflamed my sensitive vagina so I’m selling it at a loss”

I’ve been using a Lymann borescope for a while now & a Hawkeye for years.

I’ll say this, I’ve had barrels where the throat look worse than an alligators booty hole that were good, consistent shooting barrels. I’ve also seen barrels that looked beautiful that didn’t shoot so well.

A borescope is best used as a tool for finding a cause for an existing issue, not to establish a new issue.

As to your rifling question, you’re most likely seeing the difference between a 3° lead angle and a 1°30’ lead angle.

    Oh it hurts...lol

First picture is right where the lands start and felt like I was in there about 3” lol.

Second picture is probably half way down the barrel. Poor thing.

I wonder what my smith will say when I tell him I want to rebarrel it ?

Sorry, pictures taken off a computer screen off my phone.

I need to stop lol. SKS needs some cleaning and oil it looks like!

Random cracks and bruises but it’s still one of my favorite rifles I own.

This is why the bore scope is sitting in my wish list and not my shopping card. I know just enough to be dangerous and this would send me down rabbit trails I dont have time for.

Seems like a good winter project haha.

6.5CM at 3000ish rounds. She still hammers for now.

They do show a good picture for a 50 dollar tool. I've only looked at my 6.5 man bun with mine after having pressure spikes randomly and worrying about carbon ring. It was probably moisture in the chamber, but I did have a time getting that particular barrel clean. Clr did the trick , and the borescope got put up. My others shoot great so I'm not going to do that to myself..... I have enough crap I'm halfway in the middle of with guns
