I am looking for a nice case to use when taking my rifles from point a to point b. I don’t need a big case but do need one with good padding.

All the guns that will be used in this case are scoped bolt action rifles.

    Any recommendations?

I was about to buy a few of the GAP range bags but wanted to check here 1st.

    Thanks

Both of those are. 52”-60”. I have a pile of soft rifle cases (cotton, nylon, leather, oil cloth, etc.) like the GAP range bag, and they’re all about the same. They’re for point A-B, but they offer minimal protection. They’re like the brown bag they put the bottle of whisky. If you want padding that will actually protect your scope it I think you need to club up to a drag bag. No soft case is going to protect like a hard one, but a real drag bag comes closest.

Those GAP bags dont look too bad. Never heard much about them but I doubt GAP would want their logo on a complete POS.

I would say if you can wait the Midway drag bags go on sale quite often. They may still have the 56" model on sale for $30-$40. They may not be ultra operator taktikewl but for the average joe lugging a rifle to the range they are fine. IMHO.

I use an erberlestock drag bag and put the whole thing in a NANUK case if I am traveling or feel I need more protection than the drag bag provides.

No padded case I have run across offers more protection than any other. There is one that I have heard about but have no first hand knowledge of and that is this one.

    Air Armor

This costs about the same as my setup and I doubt it would protect as well but maybe someone out there with 1st hand experience can comment

I recently went through this. I'm enjoying my U.S. Peacekeeper Drag Mat
    https://www.uspeacekeeper.com/products/drag-mat
It's a bit short (only just barely holds my 6.5cm w/ 24" barrel and break), but is perfect for me. Even acts as a really decent (in my opinion) shooting mat. It's decently padded to protect the rifle from bouncing off door frames and the trunk of my car. Combined with the natural durability of most quality scopes, I'm not too worried about dropping it from normal carry height, altho I can't say I intend on testing that statement. They're available on amazon in limited quantities, normally with Prime shipping if you're impatient, for around $115.

I'm using a Kryptek, Midway had them on sale a while back. Pretty decent bag for the money. It serves me well for just transporting from A to B. Got a bunch of different bags, gotta agree with Fig on his thoughts. The Krypetk bag has some pretty decent padding and I'm liking it.

Midway drag bags are mostly sold out now (as of 4/8) but if you can wait, this is good bag for the price.

I got a midway double bag. Nice. Also got a nice Cabelas bag, good padding.

I use a cheap hard case a lot, better than just a bag. Not very low drag, nor is it a pelican. It works though.

My cases don't see lots of abuse, and I'm a cheapskate. Have two Drago cases, they were about $70 each. Padding is good, outside bags, good zippers. If I were ever to get into a place where a HD case was needed, there would be an upgrade. Until then, Drago's work for me.
