Hunting & Fishing I put in for 7 animals to hunt in NM & drew NONE!

Re: I put in for 7 animals to hunt in NM & drew NONE!

Man that sucks! You just have to learn how to play the game. I'm 99% sure I could hunt "something" every year here in NM and pretty sure I could hunt elk every other year if I just wanted to hunt. You just have study draw odds and trends and not be opposed to hunting with different weapons. I am more of a quality vs quantity guy though so I don't mind waiting on good tags. That being said, the most popular Q hunts aren't always the best hunts. You can always go OTC for bear or statewide Barbary....

Just hold on until August, NM always has a good surplus of left over tags.

I put in for three different game animals and drew nothing as well!

Put in for Elk and moose in Utah for the past 5 years and have drawn nada. Have been putting in for Maine Moose for almost a decade and will find out later this month if this year will be the one. Thinking about just getting a OTC tag for cow Elk in some western state just to go hang out in the woods with a gun....

I'm going to put in for cow elk in Utah too. I didn't draw it last year but I did the 2 years prior and got elk both of those years. It was an easy hunt if you don't mind a 500 yard shot. The elk hunting in Idaho is getting pretty tough in the areas wolves roam which is almost everywhere now.

With the price of beef lately it's a little easier to justify a $200 out of state Utah elk tag.
