I dont see a need for 5.56 to be a caliber I should own. I own 30-06's, will soon have a .308, and these substantially sized bullets provide me with the recoil, size and manliness that I lack in every day life.

Keeping my caliber selections to .45 ACP, 30-06 and .308 means that I can use one shell plate on my reloading press and with these calibers I can handle any paper target that may present itself to allow me to chase the bullseye.

The most oft quoted thing I hear about 5.56 is “Its the most common readily available caliber and should zombies attack you want to be carrying something in an AR15 flavor”. I shrug this off as mere apocalypse paranoia spread by those too enamored of living in moms basement. Besides my soon to be delivered LMT MWS would be more than suitable for anything that wished to do me or my family harm.

Who needs a glorified .22? I already have the worlds best in the Ruger 10/22 I bought when I was 14. Besides everyone in the know is sure that every Hajji in Southwest Asia must be shot by no less than 5 rounds of 5.56 before they go down and our troops are at a major disadvantage because enemy tactics call for standing off outside the range of the glorified .22's and making precision shots with their .30 caliber AK's.

Last night was spent listening to my daughter and wife puke into their own plastic sand pails. You never realize how small a 4 year old girls chest is until you have to support her as she pukes into her pink sand pail. She was a Trooper and would hand me the pail for clean out and announce “Daddy I'm done puking”

So with the wife sick and me home from work my only chore for the day was to get my son to kindergarten. That was done by 8:15 and really I had the day to myself. Down to the barber for a nice “0-3” to ensure that the hats still fit and than I had to return the Christmas light up yard Candy Canes because my son decided he wanted a Christmas Star for the tree outside instead.

I've been waiting for my MWS since early April and it should be here by end of this month. I recalled that I received an email from the local gun store that they were getting a delivery of LMT CQB16's in. I bought my MWS on internet/magazine based research and havent been able to fondle an LMT product so it seemed to me like a good idea to go check out one of the girly versions of my future rifle.

Sure enough I get there, they have the CQB16 in the rack, and for the first time I handle LMT sweetness. I like the grip, I like the sopmod, I like the solid feel, I'm thinking “what a tiny little hole at the end of the barrel. I cant wait to get my MWS”. I left the shop to go get my lighted star.

As I traveled to get my kids Christmas light I couldnt stop thinking about the CQB16. I was struck by how heavy my 03's, Garand, and future MWS are compared to the CQB16. Holding the CQB16 reminded me of the rib cage of my daughter in its light yet strong build. I thought what if these jerk offs are right and I need to move fast with a gun. How am I going to get anywhere with the 5-25x56 mounted, bipod and PRS equipped MWS? I have yet to see anyone on the “Walking Dead” make a kill with an M1903. My God I better get back to the shop before they sell the last one! Crap Obamas gonna ban them before I can buy it!

So here I am, what a jerk!

Is getting that target crown turned down and threaded to accept a Surefire Brake an option? That unprotected crown seems like a hazard to me and to keep it compliant I'll need a pinned/welded brake.

Thinking of a Trijicon for this any thoughts on that choice?

Nice rifle. Steve at ADCO firearms will gladly and quickly thread it for you. An ACOG would be ruled out if that rear sight is in fact a part of the upper reciever as it appears. ACOG's have real short eye relief.

No choice on that living in MA where ghey marriage is legal and manly men dont cover the end of their barrels.

I'm kind of shocked to even see one of these in MA. Usually a S&W or Bushmaster is the best you find in state.

I'd imagine it was threadable and assumed that would be cheaper than a new barrel. I'm thinking they would have to be pretty dead nuts with making sure the bore centers on the barrel device but I guess thats why they call them skilled gunsmiths. I'll contact them and see what my options are thank you for the redirect.

The rear sight dismounts. I'd heard about the short ACOG eye relief but havenet experienced just how bad it is. I was thinking something along the lines the ones made for the USMC. Havent really researched it just went that direction assuming they had found something worthwhile about that sight. My concern is that I think their sight is paired with a specific round choice.

    Now that was funny

Re: I thought 5.56 was too ghey a caliber for me

I like the ACOG's short eye relief. I was trained to shoot an M16A2 with my nose to the charging handle. ACOG's eye relief is purpose built for that. I have never seen a BDC reticle that was dead nuts on for any round but the USMC's ACOG is designed around the M855's flight path. If I layed all the coin you did on that rifle I would certainly top it with an ACOG

Very nice little brother for your soon-to-be Jezebel...I have several "quick"guns, they are all 7.62x39 of the russian flavor. I like using the same cleaning brushes, and am in the process of getting a 30 kal kan for use on multiple rifles. All my 'Merican rifles other than my .22lrs are 308, with a .260 barrel for the MWS in the safe in case I start to crave cock

Nice stick! I'd look into the TA33 (3x, relatively small model) or TA11 (3.5x, beefier big brother model) ACOGs. I have the TA33 on my carbine and have never had eye relief issues, and the TA11 is supposed to be even more forgiving. Enjoy the rifle!

Great post and very relevant (to me) ... not for the ghey factor! I just picked up the same gun (in CT so it is un-circumcised like yours). I love the solidness of this rifle. It shoots great too. I did some accuracy work with it before the mods and it shot really well with a 20x optic on it at 100 yards ... below MOA most of the time with good ammo. I then had the barrel threaded at Jojo's Gunworks in Southington CT. Added a Surefire brake (pinned and sealed) and dressed the little sissy rifle up in beige. You have made a wise choice sir!

That is Manfred von Kiddie Kat ... loves guns, especially Lugers!

Re: I thought 5.56 was too ghey a caliber for me

get an aimpoint m3 2moa and a magnifier. picked mine up from larue with their mounts for about the same as an acog. get the flip out magnifier mount for speed!

Re: I thought 5.56 was too ghey a caliber for me

Trust me, the last thing that you want is to take a hit with a .223 that's still going pretty fast. Don't kid yourself, the .223/5.56 is a chopper, esp. in a handy carbine.

Rather have an AR over an UZI/MP5.

Rather have the AR/.223 over 870/12ga.

You can put together an AR for just about any application.

Even I can work on/fix one.

US parts, US manufacturers. Good for you buying an LMT.

    It's a beautiful thing.

Re: I thought 5.56 was too ghey a caliber for me

Awesome post, I think we have all been "there" in our purchases.

Congrats on that LMT, I'm sure you'll love it. That rifle was really high on my short list for ARs until I got a nice deal on my Noveske.

Re: I thought 5.56 was too ghey a caliber for me

Awesome! I just bought my first AR, a CQB16 as well. Ordered today, will have on Thursday. Right now I have an Aimpoint 9000SC with factory rings in the safe, so I'm debating using that. This thread is informative in helping decide which optic to put on it.

Still debating the Noveske 18" Rogue Hunter for coyotes...

Steve will dimple it as we'll to make it even lighter. And it looks pretty sick to boot

I plan on adding a SureFire 556MBK thank for posting so I can get an idea of the look.

Not my first choice for a AR15 caliber but I do plan to keep one .223/5.56 in the safe....

I keep one around because women unfamiliar with firearms can shoot one & not be intimidated by the recoil... at least that's my excuse (see, I'm not ghey)

Im sure the .556 will kill ok inside the 50m that the 7.62's are making their "highly accurate" shots.

Re: I thought 5.56 was too ghey a caliber for me

I just had a friend who owns a used car lot, and kept a 556 for protection. A dude comes on the lot and tries to rob him, and long story short he had shot the guy in the calf. I didn't see it, but he said he thought the 22 would just punch a hole, but the guy had his leg cut off. "by the 50gr vmax" he said there was a cpl tendons left just barely holding the leg on, and said it was a big mess. But I guess no one will be trying to steal a car or rob him in the future, and the guy was armed. I've shot many critters with the 556, and it's a highly under estimated round. Even the doe I shot yrs back with my AR made a hole you could stick your fist in where it exited. They all say a 9mm won't stop someone, and I guess someone hopped up on meth or something may be right, but all I know is i don't wanna be shot with a 22 short, much less a 556 or 9mm.

Re: I thought 5.56 was too ghey a caliber for me
