Re: I want a semi-auto precision .308
You can build a MaTen for around 2k...or at least you could a short while back. I posted this in a few threads.

Cheek riser...thing this is a pretty neat attachment. It shows on the website it installing into the CTR but I put it on my MOE no problem. Plus it came with Dillo Dust which is AWESOME!
LPK I discarded the pistol grip as I hate it and put a tango down in its place. Without using the pistol grip and MOE trigger guard, you could probably get a custom LPK from G&R with only the parts you need
Upper/lower uses dpms thread pattern for the rail and I managed to catch it on sale Christmas 2010 for $499 @ Aimsurplus

Rail you'll have to check what your upper high is. there is a diagram there that will tell you what the dimensions should be for the low vs the high

Granted some of these are out of stock, but just google the name of the products and hope for the best to find them in stock.
You can use a standard AR15 LPK except for the take down pins. You need different ones that mate with the upper lower you choose. For instance Armalite has specific ones that are longer than standard ar15 ones. But the MA-ten come with them installed already so you dont have to worry about that. Armalite also sells an ar10 specific bolt catch but in my MA TEN I just used the standard one with 0 problems. The Armalite one IS different dimensionally though so if you go with an Armalite lower you will more than likely need to use it.

If you do choose to go the MaTen route the bolt will need to match whatever barrel extension that is installed on the barrel. I'm fairly certain there are only 2 types. Armalite pattern and DPMS/KAC pattern. If you asked me in 2011 when I was researching and building my gun I could have told you the differences, but no longer.
Also whatever upper lower combo you get will need to match the rail in both thread pattern and rail height. There are at least 3 different kinds. Armalite, DPMS high profile, DPMS low profile. The DPMS both have the same thread pattern and the only difference is the height of the rail

Or to get around that problem you could hope to find a MA TEN with a monolithic rail (This is no longer a valid comment as you can't get them new anymore. LMT sued Mega to stop making these)
There is another brand that makes a similar thing to Mega and that is AXTX but I dont think they are on sale yet.
Depending on how far you want to shoot 20" may be more than you need. A lot of people get good results from 16" barrels. The LMT MWS is a 16" barrel. Even the gap10 is available in 16" and KAC has 2 308 rifles that are 16".
Also be aware if you choose to build the tools are different than ar15 tools. All of the starter punches are the same of course but the vice blocks are different and the barrel wrench and compensatory wrench are different. I had Marvin Pitts assemble my upper after he was done dimpling the Noveske barrel I sent him. He assembled it for almost no cost but it could have been because I ordered the dimpling from him.
