Ideas for Old A2 Upper

I've got an old post ban (late 90's) A2 upper that's sat for many years. It's currently a cheap 16" HBAR, mid gas as it came from Model One Sales from Shotgun News ordering days... Any thoughts on what I could build off this upper? Would it be reasonable to expect a good barrel and good BCG to result in a good shooter? If so, I'd lean toward a 20" A2. Otherwise I'd likely go SBR short. Thanks.

Options seem endless, I love the 20 inch A2 but that upper paired with any barrel with the A2 style front sight will look great. I think I need to do one paired with a M4 barrel next for mid 90's look before the flattop M4.

Throw a 20" Criterion on it and build a A2 service rifle/clone. Maybe some NM sights and a sling if you feel like going all the way. Pretty sure CMP still has a place for iron sights AR's.

I love the 20" A2 it's one of my all time favorites. I'm awaiting a new DEZ set screw sight base and triangular hg cap and this one is ready to roll. It's my backup DCM gun. Only lacking the free float but it's a good shooting gun. I put a gas block on it this weekend and shot it with a cheap 4x scope up front. An A2 stock would be a better fit.
