IMR Enduron Powder and carbon rings

I've been researching powder options for the 6mm BR build I'm planning and seems Varget is a go to powder but have read its a dirty powder. I thought I found a good alternative with the IMR 4166 and reading people getting better velocities with it. On IMR's site they say there Enduron powders burn cleaner and are super temp stable . But then I read on here where guys shooting it said they were getting carbon rings so was wondering if anyone has first hand experience with it and what your take was on it.

I was about to pull the trigger on a couple pounds of 4166 today and then I read this. I don't think there is a perfect powder. They are either dirty, hell on throats or create carbon rings. There is no winning, only compromise it seems. LOL

Carbon rings and dirty barrels can be dealt with. Throat erosion is a little harder to repair. $$$

Well you are shooting a somewhat fast 6mm so you are looking at a barrel life of 2500 or so rounds so throat erosion is inevitable.

A truly Fast 6mm will yield 1200 rds or under, the BR has excellent barrel life.

True carbon rings <at the necks end in chamber, usually are a byproduct of a noncomplete burn. Not to be confused with hard carbon being laid down in the first 5" of the barrel.
I've shot my share of enduron powders, not 4166, but like all powders, you will need to clean the barrel. IMO, there has to be a byproduct of copper erasers in powders, I think it lays down a film and that film builds up and starts to add carbon and ultimately copper. There is no magical powder.

Do you have a 6br? I just got my first 6br barrel spun up picking it up tonight! so pretty excited to start shooting it. What kind of barrel life do you think you'd see out of a 6br?

I had one, pulled the barrel early as I needed the action for another direction. I'd say over 2k easy, but really I do not know. Have fun with it, cool case, I do shoot or load for 2 dashers right now, to me even better case for longer distances.

I had a Redding type s set, think the 3 die one. I like whidden sizers, redding comp seaters.

I ran 4166 when it came out a few years ago and I couldn’t get varget. It seemed to work fine, rings(?) idk I didn’t notice but it was temp stable. I switched to varget when I got a keg and it wasn’t any dirtier and was temp stable.
Loaded in 308

I then ran test loads in 223 and varget ran better than 4166 on 69’s

I only load vit in my race pistol. I would like to try some vit for my CM or Grendel but haven’t.

So basically any way you go you just need to develop a cleaning routine because there all gonna get dirty. Both Varget and 4166 are temp stable so either is a good choice

Is there a thread on what is the best way to clean a 6mm base rifle that is used for PRS style shooting? I know people have a good rule of thumb of cleaning it every 300ish rounds. Is that a good number or do people see a carbon ring form sooner? or later?

Depends entirely on your situation. Clean before it needs it and youll never have a problem.

I shot 500 and noticed a ring making chambering my rounds tough as evidenced by weird marks on the bullets, cleaned it out and had it again 100 rounds later. Cleaned it out again and havent noticed it in the 400 rounds since but its time for another cleaning.

Yeah that’s usually a good idea figuring out where that sweet spot is is the harder spot. That’s why I am curious on is there was other threads that talk about that. I would like to know more what other people do as well.
