Very beginner question, but if I don't ask I won't learn.

I'm starting to get in to precision shooting, and I'm looking at picking up a new optic. My problem is, I don't particularly understand how some of the more advance reticles work, so can't make a good judgement on what would suit my needs.

For now, I'm doing mostly bench / prone shooting, not moving around, but would like to get in to the PRS style down the road.

My main question is, does anyone have any good resources on where I can read up on reticles and how they work and what all the etchings mean? I figure if I can understand what I'm looking at, I'll be in a better position to make a smart purchase.

Thanks in advance.

Well, you just have to research the reticles. If you use a little google-fu you can usually find some images that show what they all mean. For example, here is one from nightforce

If you go to the Manufactures sites, they usually have downloadable pdf. file that describes the sub tensions of the reticle your interested in for said scope. Vortex has one of the simplest reticles available(IMHO). Bushnell has a few that are clean, but not enough for real world shooting. Horus reticles make my head hurt!

I learned on Horus. I still have one, but I agree. Now that I have some experience, me no likey anymore. I really like the MSR.
